| ectopic thyroid tumor! please help-and say a prayer..... Please help, with any advise/experience with this! My 9 Year Old Yorkie, Ellie, was just diagnosed with a thyroid tumor...in her chest. Her blood levels kept going up, but when ultrasounded, her thyroid showed no tumors. I just got back from a specialist that found the tumor---in her chest, with some thyroid tissue....he is aspirating it on Wednesday, then suggests radiation. The radiation seems so complicated and dangerous, but without it, she will die. He recomends a dr. in NY....Mark Peterson. They would keep Ellie for 5 days ....Has anyone been through this? Please....I am so scared and devastated. Julie |

| I'm so sorry you are going through this. I don't know anything about your specific situation, but I can tell you from my experience chemo and radiation is tolerated MUCH better by dogs than humans.

| I am so sorry to hear your baby is ill. I notice you're located in West Orange, NJ. I do not know Dr. Peterson but I am familiar with Dr. Renee Alsaraff out of AERA in Fairfield, NJ. Her specialty is oncology (she does chemotherapy and radiation) and I can't say enough about her. She is kind and compassionate beyond words. She tells you straight out the truth about all procedures and their side effects. |

| Ellie's thyroid tumor.... That is the doctor Ellie is seeing! Ellie's surgical procedure, to tell us more about the tumor, is in AERA...Dr. Alsaraff is oncologist that will proceed with the information from the pathologist....and already mentioned going for Iodine radiation in NYC with Dr. Peterson....Thank you so much for your information---it really will help me sleep (hopefully) a little tonight! it means so much to hear about the doctor. | Ellie's thyroid tumor Dr. Justin Strauss is performing the surgical procedure on Wednesday morning.... After weeks of not knowing why her thyroid level was climbing....bloodwork, ultrasound of thyroid, etc., I was sent to Dr. Strauss from my usual vet, and Dr. Strauss found the thyroid tissue and tumor in Ellie's chest. Thus making it ectopic--I'm not a dr, but I believe that is the reason it is called ectopic---it is quite rare from what I was told. what I didn't mention yet, was that I lost my 10 year old Yorkie last November. He passed away suddenly-within 3 hours of going to the vet---from a collapsed trachea. he had no symptoms prior to the sudden collapse. I will never get over it. I struggle each day with the loss. Devastating...and now this. I am a wreck. thank you for listening out there. |

| Dr. Strauss is the Internist at AERA. I didn't know he did his own surgeries. He is well known for his outstanding diagnostic skills. I've heard people come from all over just to see him. You have a fantastic team of Vets! I can surely see what you are so scared but I truly believe you have the best care available for your baby. |
