| Worried, taking her to the Vet So I posted yesterday about Marley's poop being hard. Now she is shaking this morning like she is cold but its not cold in our home. She had a large bowel movement last night but she still is not acting right. It's almost 8 in the am here and I am taking her in at 9. I tried giving her some banana, carrots and green beans last night , she ate a little. And this morning I gave her some pancake syrup ( about a tablespoon ) because I am worried about hypoglycemia ( shes 11 months and 4 lbs. ). I mixed her food with a little vegetable oil and some chicken and rice baby food so maybe it would help it "slide" out the back door. I felt so horrible leaving her at home to come to work right now. I am so worried. All she did was sit and look up at me and shake like she was cold. I have one more hour until the vet off base will be open. Please say a little prayer for us , hopefully all is well and I am just over reacting.

| How is Marley now? Are you home from work yet? Shaking could be a sign of pain or infection. Have you checked her temp? I know you said you really don't have a vet you trust there.....but a visit may be in order |

| Haven't been yet, waiting for another 45 minutes for them to open. She is definitely going. I don't want her to be in any pain. And no I have not checked her temp. I don't have a thermometer.

| I hope Marley is okay! Good for you for knowing about hypoglycemia and giving her some pancake syrup just in case! Be careful about leaving her at home! Can you check in on her possibly? |

| Please let us know what you find out. According to my calculation, you will see the Dr. at 8:00 EST, and possibly get home around 10:00 EST. I'll wait up! |

| Yeah you are right about the time zone! And I'm home now , getting ready to take her and get all her vaccine paper work together. Oh by the way Camile, I'm from Terre Haute originally! Nice to find some fellow Hoosiers on here! Wish us luck! Marley seems in good spirits but I don't want to take any chances!

| Ok just got back from the vet. They did some bloodwork and they said everything was normal with the exception that her white blood cell count was high. They also said that she needed to eat a different food and to mix it with some cat food? They said that she needs more protein. I went to a Japanese Vet clinic off base by the way. They gave me Science Diet for puppies. I thought that was bad?? As luck would have it as soon as I took Marley outside to go to the vet she had a bowel movement. Still hard though. I think the vegetable oil helped. They also told me to not give her snacks or treats!!! Good Lord!! I don't know about all that. I am not a vet but I don't know why I wouldn't be able to give her treats. I am still open to opinions if anyone has any??

| Hmmmm I'm not trying to contradict the Vet but it sounds odd. I didn't think Science Diet was very good either plus I've always heard dogs should never eat cat food. Something about some of the ingredients not setting well with dogs, if memory serves, I think it could cause allergies. As far as treats are concerned, I suppose they are worried about the ingredients. Cheap treats have terrible ingredients. Seems to me an elevated white count would indicate an infection. Poor baby. When I first got my last one she got a little constipated, very much like Marley, very hard, seemed like she was having a tough time pushing it out. I gave her a tiny bit of dried apple. The kind you get packaged for snacks. It's one of the foods I give for treats. Worked like a charm within hours. Not to be too gross, but the apple came out pretty much the way it went in but it got her over that initial problem and she's been OK since.very I sure hope this works for her and she is back to normal soon. This must be taking its toll on you too. Good luck and keep us posted. |

| I thought, too, that a high white blood cell count meant that there was an infection somewhere or at least that something unusual was going on. Hope you little Marley will recover and be her happy self. ~Joanne~

| I hope Marley feels better. Ine thing that has worked for my yorkie, Suzi, is when I feed her , her canned food. It is a very high protein rated a 6 on the canned dog food list. I do not give it to her all the time, once a day. It softens her poops. + she really enjoys the canned food added to her diet.

| I was told that Science Diet wasn't good. I had Bailey on it for a long time. I've never heard of mixing it with cat food, I don't know that I would do that?!?! But then again I'm not a vet, so please don't take my word for it. Bailey has chronic pancreatitis and I feed him Natural Balance Fish and Potato, pureed green beans and canned pumkin for breakfast and dinner. I also have him on supplements with his meals tho. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pol...ur-yorkie.html Here's the food poll that was done recently.

| I thought ( and so does my DH ) that high white blood cell count meant she was fighting an infection as well. Something is just not sitting right with me. I am not going to feed her CAT FOOD! That is just absurd. I only feed her chicken jerky for treats with veggies and a small pinch of cheese thrown in like once a week. She is acting fine and had a bowel movement this morning. She is still acting strange in my books but my DH says she acts like that all the time . I guess I will just see if she continues to have hard bowel movements then I will take her to the vet again, only this time I will wait to be seen on base here. Thank you for all your support. It really means alot!
