| Baldder Stones I recently adopted a 6yr old male yorkie that has had bladder stones in the past. The rescue that I adopted him from said that I may have to feed him Hills CT for the rest of his life. I have two other dogs another Yorkie and a Boxer that I have on an all natural food and would love to be able to feed the same to my new boy. Does anyone know if it will hurt my new yorkie to feed him an all natural food instead of the Hills? |

| Were they calcium oxalate stones? If so, he needs low oxalate foods and unless you talk to a veterinary nutritionist about your other options, I'd stick with the rx food because as horrible as it is, it is better than him constantly having stones.

| The stones he had were Struvite stones. I know that the lady who adopted him before me was not leaving water out for him during the day and the vet for the rescue said that most likely was what caused them. I am not taking him off the rx diet yet but wanted to find out if anyone knew of a natural diet I could put him on. I am a very picky eater and think my puppies deserve the same. I am just not sure if vets just try to sell the Rx Diets to make more money sometimes. He also has very dry skin and I know the natrual food fixed that in my other dogs. |

| Well, I don't want to make you feel like there are no other options because there are. One thing that could be done is homecooking. You could use all the organic, natural ingredients that you want but the recipe needs to be balanced by a nutritionist with the correct ingredients for a dog with this issue. Whether it was because water wasn't left out or not, I have no idea. But if you take him off of this food and he gets stones again and they can't be dissolved by diet, it will be back to surgery, so not sure if you want to take taht chance... You can also talk to a nutritionist about what ingredients you should and shouldn't be feeding and pick a natural food from there. Maybe someone on YT has dealt with this and found a quality food but I'm not sure I'd take that chance without a nutritionist's input.

| Thank you all for your help. I have always given my other pups fish oil to fix the dry skin then with the good diet it has not come back. I just dont want to give him anything that may bring the stones back. I will talk more to my vet about any options. |
