| Dante mauled by big dog I'M SO SAD!!!!My little Dante (16 weeks old) was just muled by my neighbors dog... The dog charged at him and picked up and had shaken him like a toy in this big dogs mouth in my own back yard with six people around. I rushed him to the vet emergency and they are keeping him over night. He needs oxygen so they are keeping him in this small clear glass-like cage with oxygen pumped in for the next 12 hours and he has 2 IV's. His xrays showed a brusied lung, two puncture wounds, and possibly kidney and bladder damage. I have only had for for 8 weeks, but I already love him more than anything!!!! The vet bill is already at $922 not counting tomorrows care. But I don't care, he's worth every little penny... I'M SO SAD...... I just called and they said he's still sitting up watching everyone, so I guess thats a good sign. I thought the poor little thing would be sleeping with all the pain meds he's on. The poor little thing. I can't stop thinking about him... Thanks for listening to me vent. Angie

| OMG... Dear Angie, Please know that I am sending good Thoughts and Prayers to you from Lancaster, Pa. Poor little Dante!! He's awake and sitting up, That's a good sign. Hugs to you both that he makes a speedy recovery and is back home in your arms very soon. I would report the neighbors dog for the mauling and have them be responsible for ALL Vet care for Dante!!!

| OMG! This is the second Yorkie tonight to get mauled by a big dog! Don't worry about the vet bill for now. Concentrate on getting Dante better. The owner of the dog who attacked Dante is responsible for the bill. Make sure you report the attack to Animal Control in case you have to take the owner to court. It's a miracle Dante wasn't killed. When they shake them the way you described, they are trying to break their neck. Please keep us updated on his condition, okay? |

| Thank all of you so so much for your kind words and prayers. I can't wait till morning when I can do down and pick him up. (assuming everything will be okay through the night). I'll keep you all posted. I never would have thought that I would be the one writing in this column. Now I really know how people feel when they are sick about thier little one.... As as for the shaking and trying to break the neck-OMG! I did not know that. What a MONSTER! I'm scared to leave him alone on his leash for even a second now. As for reporting her, I did. I made a police report and animal control is following up on her. They said they can't do much because it was dog-to-dog and not dog-to-person. She is paying all the vet bills. But still, people who own animals should care enough about them to keep them and other people's pet safe at all times. Dante has been in puppy class getting socialize, I hope this doesn't make him scared of other dogs now??? I can't wait until morning. Another 7 hours.....

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | OMG, I can imagine the horror you felt. Poor Dante AND poor you. I will be thinking about you guys today & will check back for a hopefully happy reunion later today. Give him some really extra special TLC til he's feeling all better. The other day I heard commotion out front, people calling "Bella! Bella, COME!" I looked out and saw a husky running loose down the street. I looked at my babies (safe inside) and said to them, "Good thing you guys aren't out there."; though I never have them out front unless I'm holding them. I hate to see dogs running loose; it scares me.
