| Diariaha and new food My Coco started new food 10 days ago. She was on Iams and now I switched to Taste of the Wild. Yesterday she had one stool that was loose, now this afternoon she has had full blown diariahha 3 times. Does anyone know if this could just be an adjustment to her food? Would I see that 10 days later? Or do you think it could be something else? |

| So sorry you baby is sick. I can't really give you any answers without knowing a little more. You said you switched foods 10 days ago, did you just switch from one to the other or did you transition it? No matter how you do it switching foods can upset their stomachs. But it's really important to transition them slowly to avoid any major problems. Another important thing to keep in mind that Yorkies can get dehydrated very easily and very quickly. Diareah can be dangerous if it goes on for too long... I'd be very careful though, if she continues to be sick like this for too long I'd definitely take her to the vet. (They can get really sick very quickly.)

| I have been adding slowly to the other food. The only other thing I could think of is that I gave her 1/4 of a frosty paw today. I didn't think it was that though because she has a wet stool last night. It was formed by the pee pee pad was wet under the poop. |

| You know what. I just remembered I gave her American cheese today. I wasn't even thinking about it being dairy. I always remember my Grandmother giving it to her dog. Could it be that and will she be okay? I did just give her some more h2o and she did drink it. |

| It could've been the cheese. I know Zoe is lactose intolerant. We learned the hard way, she sneaked a sip of my milk from cereal and milk and got so sick we had to visit the vet. How is she doing now, any better? (Because regardless of what caused it, if it continues for much longer you should take her in to the vet, just in case....)

| She just woke me up to go again. I don't think I have a vet at night. Do you think she will be okay till the am? She is alert and just peed alot so I'm thinking she is still okay for overnight? |

YT 500 Club Member | I'd set an alarm for 2 or 3 hrs from now so you can wake up and check on her. If she seems alert and hasn't had diarrhea in the last several hours, she will probably be fine. It's good to hear that she just had a big pee. At least she is staying hydrated and passing the fluids. Hopefully you won't need an emergency vet tonight, but it's always a good idea to have the contact information for one (and hope you never need it!). Good luck, and let us know how she's doing... P.S. How much cheese did she have? I give Meg cheddar and Parmesan, but I think the harder cheeses are easier on doggie tummies.

| Well, it's the am and I made it through the night. Coco is very alert and acting normal, however she continued to have diariaahha during the night. Maybe 2 times after midnight. I will call her vet at 9 when they open. The cheese I gave her was american. I gave her a few small pieces from my hand. I'm hoping she is okay. I feel so bad I was stupid to give her CHEESE!!! |

YT 500 Club Member | You weren't stupid to give her cheese. Lots of us on YT give our dogs treats of cheese. Hopefully the reaction was from the cheese though... then you will know to stay away from it in the future. Let us know what the vet says!

| Good morning! I was thinking of you, Cindyloohoo. Sorry I went to bed too early to see your last posts! (You were a great Mommy last night!) Glad she's peeing but not glad the diarrhea hasn't stopped. Don't be upset and call yourself stupid about giving her cheese. Even if that winds up being the cause you didn't know! (Not all babies are lactose intolerant!) I hope the vet visit goes well! I'll be back tonight after work and I'd love to hear a great update Coco!

| Since she has had so many new things, I have no idea what the problem is. It could be the new food but if you have been slowly switching for 10 days and she has been fine, that wouldn't be my first guess. Ellie had Frosty Paws one time. NEVER AGAIN. She threw up all over from the stuff. She can handle start frozen custard better than that stuff. Cheese doesn't set well for all of them. The only kind I consider giving is cottage. It is so rich and I just don't see how it is a good treat choice, but maybe that's just me. Whatever it is, she needs to see the vet today. And thankfully you got through the night but it would probably be a good idea to look up emergency vets in your area and even meet some, so you have a plan if things don't go as well next time...

YT 2000 Club Member | It could of been the cheese, but she could also not be tolerating the high protien content in the taste of the wild. Some pups/dogs just cant tolerate high protien foods. I had my dogs on TOTW and they did fine untill about the 3 month mark then they all started to have different issues. I had to take them off it. I hope she is feeling better today.. ((hugs))

| Well, not sure what to do . I called vet. They don't want to see her because they think it is stress related. She was at away from us overnight on Sat. and I picked her up Sun morning. I'm not convinced it's that because we were with her ALL day Sunday from 9am on. We all spent the day together. She only started symptoms really from 6pm on. Anyway, the vet said to give her 1cc of pepto 2 times daily and call tomorrow if it continues. I went to get pepto, but they all said sugar free. They have saccharin sodium in it. Isn't sugar subtitutes dangerous. She seems okay right now.She has had only 1 stool at about 830am. Somewhat formed, not watery, but def. soft like pudding. Any more advice? |
