| giving my puppy pills? PLEASE HELP! Ok so Scamp needs two pills several times a day right now. I just assumed I could open his mouth and put it far in the back and he'd swallow it--no such luck times three, then i put the pills (very small 1/4 pills) in a little PB and he wouldnt lick it like i thought so i just put the PB on the back of his tongue...he licked for few seconds and i thought i was golden...I walked away and he spit up mucusy looking a little...now I didnt see the pills persay, as they had honestly become more like powder by the time i put them in the PB.......so i have n o idea id he took the pills and I so, as Im sure he, dreads the next pills throughout the day! My Lab just used to LOVE PB and would just lick it to death so this whole not eating in yorkie world sick or not is so new to me! Theres gotta be a better way--please help!

| We put some Nutrical on the heartworm pills and Milo gobbles them up. I don't know if this will work for you but it might be worth a try. Good luck to you and Scamp. |

| Sorry, as a fellow new mommy, I do not have any other suggestions. Hopefully someone with more experience will come to your aid soon! If not, you might want to give your vet a call...they might have a helpful trick or two. Hope Scamp cooperates and feels better soon. |

| For Ellie, I drop it in the back of her mouth and push it down with my finger. Choking may be a concern this way but she does fine. You can also try a pill gun. Or put it on his tongue and close his mouth until he swallows. Or put it in his mouth, close it and then syringe a small amount of water in to give him some liquid to swallow with. If you do this, be careful to put the water in the side of his mouth and don't squirt it down his throat. Or if it dissolved that easily, dissolve it in a very small amount of water for a minute and syringe it into the side of his mouth. I'm guessing you can dissolve or crumble it since it's doing it on it's own anyway, so you could feed soft food, crush the pill and mix it in.

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | open his mouth, on the side, either side push the pill into the furthest back corner close his mouth and rub his throat. I have one that sometimes takes 3 or 4 times, but thats the most effective way for most. |

| If you put it further back in the mouth then gently keep mouth closed and lightly rub the throat or do like I do.. take a small piece of bread, bread with peanut butter or a soft treat, hide the pill within and they gobble it up! Sometimes they are smart enough to eat the bread then spit out the pill so you have to watch carefully.

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | Mine all love cheese so I wrap pills in a small amount of cheese and just hand it to them. They eat it before they know thier is something in there! Good luck.

| I use the Gerber chicken fingers and cut them into a small piece...then with a small knife, just make a slit on the end and stick the pill in. They love them and think they are getting a treat. Another way that works for me is to take two spoons and grind the pill up between spoons. Then open the puppie's mouth and just pour it in. They can't spit out powder. Good luck with your baby! Hope you find a technique that works!

That's what I do too. Just check with your vet to make sure whatever kind of pill you're giving doesn't react with dairy.

| Oh my! I hope Scamp gets well soon and doesn't have to take so many meds. Our elderly boxer, Boo, has Boxer Caridomyopathy and has to take two different heart meds twice a day.... here are a couple of our tricks. I a bit of high quality canned dog food stuff the pills inside and she swallows them right down. If she is being stubborn I stuff the pills in some cream cheese or a bit of regular cheese. If she gets ugly and won't take them, I "grease" the pills with a bit of butter or margerine, open her mouth and put them on the back of her tounge and hold her mouth closed while stroking her throat to encourage her to swallow. |

| I have always used Greenies pill pockets. My dog loves them and I don't treat them any different than any other treats he gets. He still has to sit, or shake, or touch my hand. Works every time.
