| Rotted nails?? I really had hoped I would get to wait longer than 2.5 weeks to have to post in this area about Oliver! He was sleeping on my stomach just a bit ago, and I was petting him.. My hand moved to his right front paw, and I noticed his nail didn't look right.. Come to find out, he has 2 nails on that paw (all other paws are fine) that look (and this is the only way I can describe it) as thought they have rotted part of the way down. It starts at about half way down the nail and goes to the pad. He is not in pain, he didn't like me touching it, but he runs and jumps and plays like normal and seems perfectly fine. But, it seriously LOOKS bad! I'm worried he may lost those nails, and that would be soooo painful, and the boy has gone through ENOUGH already! Could it be some kind of fungus? I tried to get pictures but he wasn't having any of it... I'll look online and see if I can get an example. Luckily I already have a vet appointment for him tomorrow at 2:40 just for his new adoption check up and heartworm preventive. He seems fine so I won't push the appointment up unless he seems uncomfortable... not so sure I can wait though! It's freaking me out! And here I've been taking him for hour long walks each morning, with 2 nails like that!!!! They've gotta hurt! My poor baby!

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | Have you noticed him chewing them at all? I have 5 yorkies, and two of them are habitual nail biters. Sometimes the nails look discolored or jagged, etc. from them constantly chewng them. Could it be this?

| I have never seen him bite... that doesn't mean he hasn't, or even that it didn't happen in the past. It's not down to the pads as I thought, it's directly in the middle of the nails. I'll see what the vet says, I'm sure he'll know! Hoping it's nothing, it certainly doesn't hurt him but it looks nasty. Can't wait to get this vet appointment over with, with him being nervous around men it's going to be f-u-n, lol... Poor boy.

| So, it was nothing.. literally.. lol. He just had gotten into something and it had dried on his nails. The vet picked one nail clean to make sure. Whew! I felt stupid but so happy it was nothing. He was a trooper at the vet too! The vet was really good at getting down on his level and giving him treats right away so he would like him, and it worked wonderfully. He even didn't charge me for the exam, just the heartworm test and medication and the omega 3 fatty acid pills I got for his dry skin. I'm impressed, liking the new vet (couldn't go back to my old one as they only have 2 exam rooms and we put Freeway to sleep in one... will never be able to walk back in that room and I know it.) He is almost a "teapot", weighing in at 9.6 pounds, lol. But healthy for his size.. yay! So relieved!
