Seizure? Layla just had a seizure (we think) Possibly the medication she was put on? Metacam. We don't know what to do but, could it be low blood sugar? We gave her honey and she perked up again. We will stay up with her tonight to make sure she is okay and if tomorrow she is not any better or worse we will take her to emergency Vet. Monday we are already going to our regular Vet. Any ideas what is happening to my Layla?

How old is Layla and how big is she? It could have been from low blood sugar especially since you say the honey perked her up again. You might want to pick up some Nutrical to keep on hand. Was she playing hard right before it happened or had she gone a long time between meals? Watch her closely and make sure she gets a small meal every couple of hours...you might also want to leave a bowl of dry food out for her if you don't already. Good luck...I hope Layla is o.k.

Did you say she is 8 yrs old. I would get her to the vet. My Manolo had seisures and we found out he has a mild MVD. We switched his food to Low Protein diet and he is doing fantastic. Ask your vet for an Acid Bile Test. You must fast the night before. Good Luck and let us know how Layla is doing.

Layla update Well she is still laying in bed on the floor. I just can't believe that she out of nowhere has become so sick seeming. She was basically fine on Thursday but we thought maybe low blood sugar. Then the vet realized that Layla's knee was out of socket. The Vet said it would not go back in. Now she has been taking that Metacam and I thoght she would be in less pain by now. But now she won't walk at all, and last night definently had a seizure. We will take her in tomorrow seeings how she seems stable and it's Easter so nothing is open and will cost triple today over tomorrow. We did change her food to Beneful this last time. We usually give her Eukanuba Yorkie Food. Maybe that kept her sugar where it should be?

I doubt an eight year old had low blood sugar. Her medication was my first thought. I found this under possible side effects with Metacam: * All NSAIDs are removed from the body by the liver. If the patient’s liver is not working normally due to another disease or if the patient is taking other drugs that are also removed by the liver, it is possible to “over work” the liver and exacerbate pre-existing liver disease. If there is any question about a patient’s liver function, another class of pain reliever should be selected. Meloxicam (Metacam) - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! Have her liver values always been normal in the past? I would ask your vet for Tramadol for pain. That is the safest medication. My Lady can take it for her arthritis and she has epilepsy, diabetes, liver disease and a heart murmur! It is also very effective.
