| I think My GUCCI Has Kennel Cough Too make a long story short, we reposessed a Pitty that someone wasn't caring for properly (we had sold her to the person) and she came here with Kennel Cough.. this person allowed her to stay ill and we had to pick her up this way!!! for a pitty I guess no biggy as they are very strong but still...he didn't even tell us she was sick, we found out after we got her here and heard her coughing. I kept her away from my other dogs BUT Kennel Cough travels through the air. Gucci had a Bordatella Vaccine abt 3 months ago but somehow I believe he contracted it.. which I KNEW was a possibility but I couldn't leave the dog where she was nor did I have anywhere to keep her at the time but here ( she was safe that was what mattered ). So Gucci woke up at 6 a.m hacking and "coughing" he stopped at about 6:20 or so (it was not a straight 20 minutes but on and off) he woke again about 8 a.m doing it.. I am so sad!! I hate that he has gotten sick and I feel responsible!!! He is 7 mos and 3 weeks.. should I get him to the vet or wait it out? He has an appointment tomorrow at 8 A.m but I am not familiar with how kennel cough runs through Yorkies so I am wondering if it is necessary. What should I do to keep it from progressing? should he stay dressed all day to keep warm or the heater on etc? He is still active as of now and he ate last night but not yet this a.m Any suggestions... My lil man, here he is as we were getting ready for bed last night.. he is such a happy guy it breaks my heart hearing him cough Thanks so much for listening Last edited by annamalyssa; 04-07-2009 at 09:02 AM. |

| Poor Gucci. Sorry he's not feeling well. I'd take him in just to be sure it is kennel cough. Hopefully they can get him better right away. How many other dogs do you have?

| Thanks Bonny, I have 3 other Pitty's and the one we are keeping here until we get her into a suitable home, she is the one that had kennel cough but she is over it now. The other dogs are fine so far.. and they have had vaccines as well so I think maybe their immune systems were just stronger than Gucci's ... |

| I hope Gucci's not sick, I know that even though the dog was vaccinated, they can still get it. Bordatella shots only lasts 6 months & it only protects against 2 out of 8 or something like that? If you're taking him to the vet tomorrow, I guess keep him warm today (it's nice out) & have the humidifier on for him so he can breathe easier. Gucci, feel beter soon widdle guy, so your mommie don't have to worry so much!

| Poor Gucci. I would call the vet and see what his/her recommendation. Monitor Gucci very closely. If it persists I would take him asap. If he seems like he hasn't gotten worse or it has stopped, I would wait til the morning. I always LOVE looking at pictures of Gucci b/c he is such a beautiful pup!

| bailee had this when i got her...its can be tough to get rid of but it is not extremely serious if caught early...taking him in the am should be fine, it is worse during the nite so dotn be surprised if hes fine during the day and coughs at nite, they usually show no other symptoms than a hacking cough

| mimimomo - So I called the vet and I am now taking him in at 3:30 this afternoon just to be on the safe side, he seems to be doing it more as the day progresses and I want to hurry up and nip it early before it gets worse ... RobinLodal - thank you for the sweet comments on my baby, he is such a spunky guy I can't stand seeing him not feel well. heatherm - I have had a couple dogs that had it before a few years back and I just hated seeing them cough.. I think it's just so tough to watch and then to top it off Yorkies are so small and fragile it can be worrysome. |
