| You need to go to the ER. Is he bleeding....I would wrap his paw and take him in. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | If it is more than a little cut I would get him to the vet. Keep us posted.

| How deep is the cut? Is it bleeding or did it stop right away? Did you disinfect it, and put antibiotic ointment on it? Does it need stitches? If you are not sure about the severity of the cut, please get him to a vet right away

| hey everyone, Thanks for the replies. I didn't take him into the vet but he seems to be doing just fine. His pad wasn't really cut, more torn. It was as if a layer of skin on the pad was peeled off, underneith it was red and irrated and I kept it clean and used an antispetic spray. He's doing really well and it doesn't seem to affect him much, he is still running around the house and playing like before it happened. I am keeping an eye on it and keeping it clean (I wash it everytime he goes outside for potty), the top layer is still hanging on his paw, should I remove it? It seems to help protect the pad for the most part. Thanks again for your quick responses! Walter |

| I would bandage it up...just so less bacteria can get in there. Maybe he'll start biting on it, huh? Hmmm, I would still bandage it up...& keep a close eye on it & him.

| I did try to bandage him up the first couple of days and it was a war with him to keep it on. He was pulling and chewing at the bandage every time we took our eye off of him. It looks to be healing nicely and we have been really dilligent abut keeping it clean (I think he holds his pee in longer so he doesn't have to go outside since he is not a big fan of his foot washing afterwards). |

| It sounds like you're doing a good job on keeping an eye on him & keeping the area clean. Baxter sure sounds like a bundle of fun & cuteness!

| This happened to my boys last summer a few times. They love to run around the pool area with my bfs kids and jump in the pool... but its all cement. So their pads and nails would wear down. They won't keep on shoes, or a bandage. I had to let it go and at the end of the days I would clean it well and put neosporin on it. I would let them lay with me most of the night and that kept them off it and by morning they were good to go again.
