| Allergic Reaction to Vaccines I took my 15 week old yorkie in yesterday and she had her parvo and distemper vaccines and she ended up having an allergic reaction to it. I freaked out cause I've never had a dog do that before luckly I was till at the vet when she threw up and started having the reaction so they could treat her right there. But I almost started crying, they had to give her the stuff to counter act the reaction so luckly she pulled through okay but when they brought her out to me finally she had that look on her face like 'mom what did they do to me?' I felt so bad! She's doing okay now acting normal and playing but man did that scare me. So my question is has anybody else's dog had an allergic reaction to the vaccines before?

| I've seen/heard it before. I work at a vet's office, do you know if the vaccine had lepto in it?? Normally that is what the reaction is too, they should give her a benedryl inj before all vaccines in the future. I am glad your baby is okay. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | What a scare. I would check and see if they gave the combo shot with the lepto in it. I have my girls files marked that they are not to be given the DHP with Lepto in it due to so any dogs having reactions. Also anytime she has shots I would also stay at the vets for 30 45 minutes afterwards to make sure she is ok

| The vet told me yesterday and she will only get the vaccines she has to have and they will mark it on her record that she has allergic reactions. I'll ask Tuesday if they had lepto in the shots. It scared the crap out of me cause I'm very attatched to my dogs their my children. She also has an umbilical hernia that will have to be fixed when she gets spayed also. I guess from now on when she gets vaccines I'll just have to stay at the vet's so make sure she doesn't have another reaction. At least now she's okay.

He is only 3.5 pounds and they gave him 4 vaccines and sent me on my way as soon as i got outside he just collaspe and then threw up luckily i was outside the vet and ran him back inside. I cried i scream I was so upset and what made it worse one breath the receptionist was telling me it was severe and then handing me a bill for $200.00. Of course I did not pay that bill.. |

| I have 3 furbabies and one of them had a reaction when we got home. His face starting swelling up and he kept scratching his ears. We took him back to the vet and they treated him for it. His yearly is due and I am nervous to take him to get them.

| please read through this thread there is a ton of information http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ng-them-2.html remember the next vaccination can be a worse reaction so i would split all vaccinations if your dog has to have them and your dog is less than one. Personally i would titer mine after having a reaction. You are near Garden Grove not too far and dr jean dodds is there and her website is www.hemopet.com Please read up and learn as much as you can on vaccinations before doing any more here is another thread with info this little girl had a reaction to a previous vaccination and the next one was deadly- not trying to scare you but it is very serious that you learn about it since your girl had a reaction http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/mem...y75s-pain.html Last edited by dwerten; 05-20-2010 at 05:33 PM. |

| Chip has severe reactions to vaccines. He's been hospitalized twice because of them.

| Please read about Brandi in the RIP thread as you carefully think about this issue. To sum it up, Brandi had a severe reaction to the distemper/parvo/hepatitis/parainfluenza vaccine also called DH2PP or DHPP. One year later, she was given this same vaccine and although she was given a steroid as a premed precaution, she went into anaphylactic shock and died at 2 1/2 years old. Discuss your options with your vet -- if your dog has had a reaction to a vaccine, the reactions only get WORSE each time. You can consider limiting vaccines by doing titers...Discuss with your vet and if your vet is not up on the current medicine, find one that is.

| dogs can die from vaccine reactions and she was scared about her dog as she loves her dog. That wasn't a very nice comment to make to someone who was upset about their dog. Why would you say something like that to someone? Welcome to YT where people care about their yorkies Last edited by Wylie's Mom; 05-23-2010 at 05:51 AM. Reason: Remove deleted quote |
