| Harley is sick what could it be!! My little Harley has had some loose stool for a couple days and we thought it could be from a few new things we have given him. (Bully Stick, bottled water instead of tap.) So last night he started throwing up. It looked very foamy without any food. Then this morning he had 3 very slimy loose stools right away when he got up. He has been drinking fine but he has not had anything to eat yet today. His gums are pink so I think he is hydrated. I cant wait to get him to the vet!!! I am going to take his stool with me also so they can check that too. Has anyone ever had this kind of thing going on? Any ideas what it could be? And if so was it serious? We are headed to the vet this morning!!!!

| They did blood work, fecal exam, giardia test, everything looks good. Maybe he got into something??????? If it does not go away with a little chicken and rice diet we can go back for x-ray to make sure nothing there blocking anything!

| aww poor guy- sometimes, for no reason- they have a few off days- but give the chicken and rice a go and see how that works. Pure canned pumpkin also dries up diarrhea quite well! |

| I have heard of bullysticks making pups sick before so that could be it. Sometimes after its been chewed for awhile it gets bacteria on it. So you have to be careful with them. I am sorry hes not feeling well. Hopefully hes better soon

| Be careful what kind of bully sticks and snacks you buy, some are better nutritionally. Check the back and make sure it has the simplest of ingredients. Mine does not do well when there is a complex list of ingredients and/or chemical preservatives. Best of luck....... |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Not all Bully Sticks are created equally, and many are imported. The drying process is very important and some companies skimp on this and use preservatives, but these often come with expiration dates, and I've read of someone using a bully stick after the expiration date and the dog becoming sick. For preservative free bully sticks, look for those made by the Merrick Company, they do not import their beef or the sticks, and have a high quality drying process so their sticks don't need preservatives. Bottled water isn't always safe either, make sure the bottled water says that it's safe for drinking, and use before the expiration date, some bottle water is meant for appliances such as steam irons, and isn't meant for drinking. Dogs can eat things you don't even know about, bugs, a bit of trash or rubbish from a walk outside, and puppies seem to want to eat everything, many times puppies get tummy upsets and we never learn the cause. Sometimes they can even vomit because their tummies are too empty! Good luck at the vet.

| Thank You I think we will just steer clear of the bully sticks. I checked the water we are using and it is safe for drinking. Thanks so much. He seems a little better now. A little bit of chicken and some TLC!!!! I guess I get really worried fast with my babies. I think I will stick to kong and some stuffing for him. We like to freeze it so it takes him a little longer. (not much longer)
