| Yorkie stolen from disabled woman I live in Los Angeles and am on Social Security due to my disability. I struggle with "simple" tasks and have a caretaker. My caretaker and my teacup Yorkie, Hambone, adore each other. Hammy is a very affectionate and happy little girl. She adores my silky terrier, Scampy. If Scampy has to go in the cage, Hammy will follow him. Scampy has to get painful eyedrops twice a day, and Hammy will line up next to him waiting to get her eyedrops,so she can be like him. When I went to claim her from Animal Control, I was told that Hammy had been stolen by a customer that she was supposedly left alone with for fifteen minutes, and that I could adopt one of their strays in exchange for Hammy, or take them to small claims court. They filed a fake police report saying that Hammy was stolen by a customer, but the police said that it was an inside job. When I would call Animal Control, I was told by Lt. Transo to call on Monday, then told Monday morning that he was off today, then told Monday afternoon that he had gone home for the day. When I went to confront them in person, I was told that they were "closed to the public" today, as if I were just some customer, that I was "harassing" them and that they would call the police. I wanted to stick around but my friend who gave me the ride to Animal Control didn't want to get arrested and wouldn't believe me that they wouldn't arrest us. Lt. Transo told a journalist that I had contacted that they had taken out a restraining order against me, which was news to me, since I've never received it. I call city council and the mayor and they say,"We called them and haven't heard back yet." |

| This is just nuts! I would be so mad if they took my dog. You need to call the news stations and get some media attention. |

| My very disability precludes me from contacting media and politicians as much as I should. The politicians that I have contacted have had one of three responses 1)we called Animal Control but haven't heard back 2)Animal Control is part of the city government, and we're part of the state or feds, so we can't "interfere", and 3)no response at all to repeated answering machine messages. Except for the one journalist, the press have not responded at all. I called a pet detective, who said that they don't have the authority to go into Animal Control and use their dogs to track her scent, and that I should hire a private investigator. Private investigators charge thousands of dollars and make no guarantees; I am on Social Security and do not have that kind of money. The pet detective suggested holding a fundraiser, but, as I said, I am disabled. She suggested calling the media and saying that I'm holding a protest outside Animal Control, but again, I got no response from the media. Last night, I was told to post on Craig's List, that everyone would see and respond; so far the only response is a red-colored -1, which evidently means it was "flagged" as suspicious(probably by an Animal Control worker). Everything that I said in my post is easily proven. |

| Hello and welcome to YT. I am confused...why was Hammie with animal control? Does your caregiver work there? Is Hammie microchipped? I hope and pray you find your baby! You must be so heartbroken...hugs to you!

| No, my caretaker doesn't work there. She only works for me, provided by the County of Los Angeles. She hardly speaks English, and I have not told her what happened to Ham until I have good news. Yes, Ham is microchipped, but it isn't like lojack; someone has to scan her chip, and then have the ethics to contact me. How did Hammy end up in Animal Control? My life is a disability cliche. This was chronicled last year in the "Pasadena Weekly" newspaper(I don't know the link, but if you Google "Mary O'Connor" and "Pasadena Weekly," it's the first thing that comes up). Animal Control complained to the paper about the story and Carl, the writer, told me that they were afraid of a lawsuit from Animal Control. He is the journalist who was lied to about the restraining order. I settled with my former landlord and bought Ham with the settlement, bought her to make myself feel better after what the police and Animal Control had done. I suppose they think it's "justice" to steal Ham after the story ran. By the way, if you doubt that any of my troubles detailed in the story are par for the disabled course, call any disability rights center and ask them how likely this is to happen to a disabled woman. Carl told me that many disabled people contacted the paper after the story, but after Animal Control complained to the paper, his boss said no more stories on the subject. |

| Thanks for your prayers and support. If you could please ask around for any suggestions, please let me know. Ham wound up in Animal Control because I was evicted by a landlord who didn't care what the service and emotinal support animal laws are. When I fell behind on rent, it was just icing on the cake. The sheriffs dragged me out, and they called in Animal Control to seize my animals. This is part of an ongoing problem that I have with Animal Control. The shortest explanation that I can find is to refer you to the March 27, 2008 issue of "Pasadena Weekly"'s cover story, "A Life on the Edge." I am not with that lawyer any more, and he had harmed me much as he has helped me. There are some serious distortions about me in the story, but the basic facts are intact. |

| So, do they have both dogs or just one of them? Where are you living now? Who is this customer that took the dog? Or are they just telling you that to keep you away? I'm sorry, I'm just confused by the story.. you jumped around a little, I can tell you're very upset!
