| HELP! Sick Baby.. Hi all, I need to get on this forum more..I need some advice! My 4.5lb, my 16 month old yorkie is not feeling well. This morning right when she woke up she vomited. I gave her 1cc (i think the small syringe) of Pepto. She was totally fine all day, playing, barking eating, jumping. Just now.. 12 hours later. She is starting to hyper-salivate. She is acting a little sad, like when I think she has a tummy ache. I called 2 emergency vets just for peace of mind, and the only advice that they give is bring her in.. Normally I would, but have been laid off for over 2months now, and I really cant afford the urgent care bill right now if it doesnt seem so urgent. I gave her another .5cc of pepto, and she seems to have stopped salivating. One vet suggested she that was hypoglycemic, and that I should bring her in right away. Her gums are completely pink, and she ate nearly her whole bowl of dry food about an hour ago. Any thoughts..or what to do throughout the night. Is it typical for yorkies to get sick once in a while like this? when it happens all that I want to do is panic because i dont want her to be sick anymore! |

| Hello, Do you know if she ate anything new before she vomited? Has she had normal bowel movements today and is she urinating ok? Have you taken her temperature?

| She had a normal BM this morning. Skipped the one she usually has in the early evening. The only thing that she may have eaten besides her food is a flake or 2 of cereal that fell on the floor. Just a cornflake or 2.. She has urintated 3 times today. I do have nutrical thats probably about a year old.. so Im nervous to try it. But i really dont think its hypoglycemia, just about half an hour before she started feeling sick again I was throwing her toys around.. |

| I don't think she's hypoglycemic. Sounds like she's eating well -did she eat before the dry food an hour ago? She only had the one vomiting episode this morning correct??

| Just vomitted once this morning, it was bright yellow. She didnt eat much before the dry food. A few pieces in the morning, then I gave her a small plain training cracker to eat. This evening was the most food that she has eaten all day. She is hiding under my bed right now because she gets embarrassed Is Pepto reccomended for nausea? I hear yes and no.. |

| More for the upset stomach really, diarrhea and such... I think it depends on the vet. Did the emergency vets tell you to give it? I'm glad you're giving so little! Yorkies have very sensitive stomachs, the hypersalivating concerns me, but from everything else you describe I'm not sure what exactly it could be. She may have just vomited the once because she's not had enough on her stomach to vomit again since. Its encouraging that its been an hour since she ate and she hasn't vomited again. If the emergency vets were concerned enough to tell you to bring her in, I'd really consider it if she's not getting better. But if she's doing better you may just want to keep your eye on her and make sure she's eating/drinking fine again.

| Just an update! Effie is feeling better. I kept checking her gums last night and they were getting more pale every time I checked, and she was shaking. I gave her some Nutrical, and called her "daddy" (bf who lives a mile from me in Chicago) to come over so that we could take her to the emergency vet. She is absolutely in love with him. As soon as he came she was SUPER excited, jumping around and running to her food bowl. He loved her a little bit and half an hour later she seemed fine, gums were back, no shakes. After midnight it was bedtime, of course I stayed up watching her and she slept. This morning she is totally fine. Any ideas on what could have went wrong? thanks for the help everyone! |
