Legg-Calve-Perthes Bella my 6month old yorkie was just diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. I would really love to hear from you guys if you have had any dealing with this disease. She is going to have two surgeries, a month apart on each hip. I'm going crazy worrying about her, any info would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much over it. They are pretty sore for a couple days and it does take several months to get to where they can walk well on the leg but it isnt that bads of a surgery. Make sure you do the excercises to keep the leg limber and that will help the healing process. Mine was up and walking in no time and wanting to jump off of the couch which was hard to get him to quit doing. It did take months for him to put his leg down and walk on it but that could be because he was used to walking on three legs before his surgery. Good luck and try not to get too worried about it.

Ahhh...I don't know much about it. Maybe you should do a search here on YT as I am sure there are lots of babies that had to go thru this.... Let us know when surgery is, so we can say a little pray for your baby

Don't Worry My little guy Oscar had this operation when he was 15 months old - only on one leg. He was fine and back to himself soon afterwards. However, because he favored his bad leg he used only the three good ones for a while - which caused the operated leg not to grow as strong as the other. Looking back it might have been good to tie up (talk to your vet about this) the good leg (once the operated leg was 100% okay) and allow him to strengthen the operated leg. However, in the end it didn't make a difference, kind of cute when he would run ahead of us and we could see is operated leg flaring out to the side. Oscar has since passed at the age of 10 from Lymphangiectasia (last Saturday) and I am finding much comfort (through the tears) on this sight. I’ve posted a long story about his disease, please read it as it may help you in the future.

Yorkie Talk is the greatest when you need info or just simply support. You guys have put my nerves at ease. I'm still a little apprehensive about the surgeries. I guess that's normal for us yorkie moms. I am so sorry to hear about Oscar, you are in my prayers. Thank you.
