| Sick puppy We just bought a yorkie-poo, have had it 3 days now but on day 2 our 3 year old did something and ended up breaking the rear leg the upper bone. Well after going to the vet the vet did some test and found out she has parasites read bad. So for the last 24 hrs the puppy has a hard time walking with the splint and the biggest issue really is she appears to now have the runs due to medication. I am not sure if it hurts her but it appears so cause she cry's just before using the restroom. Has anyone else experienced this and what would be the best food for her and such. I feel sorry for her cause I can't help and she is so presious at just over 8 weeks old. Also the splint the vet used is so big it makes it hard for her to move. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Welcome to YT! 8 weeks is pretty young - most breeders will not let yorkies go until they are at least 12 weeks old. So, your baby is quite vulnerable to a lot of things, including hypoglycemia - which is common to yorkie pups - do you have Nutrical at home? How long has she had the runs, what is the parasite and what med is she on? Having diarrhea can put a puppy in an emergency situation in a flash - so if she's had it for more than a day or so, she may need to get back into the vet or she'll probably dehydrate and need to get on IVs, which is good to avoid. As for food, I'd be feeding about 4x per day at her age. How is her appetite and drinking? Are her gums pink? Lastly, it's pretty common for a 3 year old child not to understand how fragile a puppy truly is, you're not alone there. So, I'd just make sure the puppy is always supervised.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | When my little Prada was 14 weeks she fell from the bed and broke her little hind leg too, very freak accident, and she got a splint too. for the first few days she was a mess, I gave her Puppy Cal 3 times a day and also the Vet recomended to put her on wet soft food for a while while she got use to the splint. She got better fast ask your vet he knows but the Puppy cal and the soft wet food should to the trick, Prada's poop was a little runny the first 2 days while she got use to the soft food, I used the same brand that she was eating on kibble. Best of luck with your little one.. hugs, cArmen in nj Here's a picture of my little Prada in her splint. |

| thanks Thanks for all the post the puppy has coccidiosis and is on albon at the moment. Yesterday was pretty bad she barely ate but today she seems to be doing better at least eating and drinking. Wanting to play as I took her out in the yard for a half hour or so to get some good sun light. She walked a little but mostly just rolled around in grass. She had the runs for the last couple of days, today seems better now that the meds are kicking in I guess. I am just glad to see her want to eat and drink unlike yesterday. |

Puppies do get worms often, so be sure she is taking her medication that she needs. 3 yr old little childern need to be supervised at all times with small puppies or any small animals. It is too easy for accidents to happen with the animal because little children will treat the animal like it is a toy. I am very sorry that the accident occured, and hope your puppy will heal well and feel better .

| Albon stops diarreia, pretty fast usually. If it is getting better good.... but you may want to call the vets and let them know about it. At 8 to 10 weeks a puppy is very frail and vulnerable. The trauma and stress may have caused the diarreia. Your vet may also give you some flagyl to help stop the diarreia faster or even something else. a puppy this age should not be having diarreia , even for 2 days or a day can be life threatening. Nutry call is very good and does not hurt to be given at all.
