| Help with Excessive Eye-Tearing & Red Inflammed Around Eyes... Well, it's Saturday night & tomorrow will be Sunday so, the Vet's closed Poor Bella...one of her eyes started tearing excessively. So, last night I bathed her & trimmed around her eyes thinking it was irritation from her bangs rubbing. Now tonight, one eye is tearing excessively & both eyes are red & irritated around them. She doesn't seem too bothered...but, she definitely doesn't want me to look at them either Does anyone care to share any home remedies till Monday morning when I can get her into the Vet? Thanks in advance from me & Bella

| It could be an allergy, or she could have gotten into something. I don't want to scare you, but I sure wouldn't mess around with something like eyes. A couple years ago I bathed my golden like normal, and that afternoon she started itching her eyes. That evening they became red and swollen. I gave her some benadryl and went to bed. I woke up at six am to find her eyes completely swollen shut and super irritated. I rushed her to the ER and they found she had severely burned her cornea (I think that was the anatomy that was burned). They described it as a chemical burn. She was in danger of loosing her eyesight and still has some slight damage. I still don't know what happened or what she got into. I used the same shampoo I always did and didn't wash her face, so we think it was something on her feet that she got into her eyes. Anyway, I felt absolutely horrible. Enough about me. I would watch her closely and perhaps contact the ER vet in your area and see what they say. They may just have you give her some children's benadryl, but I would call... poor baby!!! Hope she's ok, please update when you find out.

| I'm not an expert by all means, but I would try a warm washcloth. I hope your baby is feeling beeter real soon

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I agree w/ Amanda. Also, is she holding her eyes closed (squinting all the time) or are they open, but teary/red? If they're open, that's a better sign. If she is always holding them closed (trying *not* to keep them open), then I'd really be concerned about getting her in ASAP.

Just one eye is actually tearing more than usual and both eyes around like where a human eyelid would be is where it looks red & inflammed. I'm starting to think it's an allergy since it seems to look worse other times of the day than not. I'll be calling her Vet in the morning and in the meantime, I've trimmed her bangs so that nothing is near her eyes and using a warm wash cloth a couple times a day.
