| Injured nail? The other morning while Hiro was having free time in the house (and running around like a maniac like he usually does) he got tangled up in some computer cords (subsequently pulling the laptop off the table) I think he may have panicked a little so I scooped him up and put him in his carrier so I could clean up the mess. (Note: he didn't yelp or make any noises when he got tangled) After that when I took him out of his carrier he was favouring his left back leg. I ran my hand down the leg and pushed on it in various places and he made paid no attention to my actions. The minute I got to the paw and specifially one of the pads/nails in the middle he yanked his leg away and squeaked just a little. Not a yelp but a sharp breath in. Since then he has been favouring it on and off, but also has been running around the house as usual. He seems fine, then not so fine and holds the leg up and hops around. Anything I should be careful of? His paws seem fine, no scrapes or scratches or anything... it just seems to be the nail.

| Something similar happened to my Madison over the weekend. I had taken him to the groomer's and for some reason, they left one nail on each foot REALLY long. One of them had torn off down to the quick and I saw Madison running around with one of his hind legs up...I wasn't sure if his hip or his leg was hurting him or if he'd done something while he was outside, so I checked his entire leg and foot and found the torn nail. Naturally, it was on a weekend and it really was hurting him. I finally got some really sharp scissors and very gently cut off what was left. You could tell that it was very sensitive even afterward, (he didn't make a peep or a move while I cut it off thank goodness), but it was too close to the pad to be able to wrap anything around. I was concerned about it possibly getting infected, so I gently cleaned it with some hydrogen peroxide and then put some cornstarch on it to hopefully help it dry up a little and heal. I think the main concern would be infection, but if he's favoring it, it's probably b/c it's tender and sensitive..can you clip off part of it so it's not putting so much pressure on the affected area?

| oh poor thing- i'd go to the vet- you don't want it to tear any further or become infected if he has torn it a bit. |

| Ill take a peek at the nail and see if I can cut it down a little. I usually don't cut his nails myself - his walks seem to grind them down pretty well. I'll check his nail while he's sleepy lol I may take him into the vet if he keeps favouring it. Thanks for the replies!
