Yorkie with possible cancer? I have a 2 and a half pound male yorkie that has been having some ongoing problems since I first got him back in June. First off, he had terrible teeth and I had to have quite a few pulled and he also had terrible gum disease. I noticed that the lymph nodes under his neck were both very swollen before I took him in to have the procedure done and I asked the vet to examine them and see what he thought. I had bloodwork done and everything came back fine. The vet seemed to think the lymph nodes were enlarged from his teeth being so bad which is what I originally suspected. He was put on a full course of antibiotics and they never seemed to go back down. I then took him to another vet for a second opinion. He felt of them and seemed to think they just felt enlarged because he is so tiny. He asked me to come back in two weeks for another exam and he still said they felt just like before- no change. Well i had put all of that behind and tried to look on the bright side but now he has another problem. I felt a lump in his testicular area today. It was not there when I bathed him three days ago and now it's just there. Does this sound like cancer? I am really scared and worried and need some advice.

| I wish you the best. Has bloodwork been done again by either vet after he had his teeth procedure done? If not, i would suggest a full panel to see the current values and maybe give you some direction . Keep us updated!!

No bloodwork was done after the tooth removal by either vet. I have not had the resources to do anymore tests and the vet said if it was cancer he would most likely not make it even if I tried to save him. I am in a tight situation here money wise because my husband's work hours have already been cut from 40 hours a week to 35 hours a week and he is probably about to be laid off when he goes back to work on Tuesday. I would go and have all of the testing and everything done but I honestly do not even have any extra money even for the office visit and it just kills me

I am sorry your little boy has had so many problems. Is the lump in the testicle or outside of it? How old is this dog and has he had any recent vaccinations?

The lump feels like it is attached to the testicle inside the sac. It feels really spongy like. The dog is almost two years old and his last vaccinations (according to the person I got him from) were done in February of 08. I have not had any vaccinations done on him myself. This may not even be related but I also noticed that he has alot of scabby feeling things all over one side of his hip. I don't think it's fleas or anything because I bathe him at least once a week and never see any on him at all.

It does sound like he is having a lot of problems for his age. As for the lump inside the testicle, I have felt of my male dogs testicles and they all seem to have a extra little lump inside so what you are feeling might be normal. It would be best to get it checked by the vet is you have doubt. It is possible the poor guy was over vaccinated when he was younger and all these problems could be due to a compromised immune system. Some of the side effects of the vaccinations do not show up until months later. What are you feeding him?

You might try a different dog food. Nutro has a lot of grain in it. Here are the reviews on the Nutro dog foods: Dog Food Reviews - All Products - Powered by ReviewPost I would definitely recommend a blood panel and that might eliminate any concerns about cancer. If the blood panel comes back normal then I would just concentrate on his diet, perhaps get him on a good antioxidant. Please keep us posted on how he is doing?

Thank you for that information. I have been debating about the whole food issue for a while now. What food do you and most other breeders recommend?

I feed Canidae to my adults and Chicken Soup Puppy for my puppies when I am weaning them. Solid Gold and Natural Balance are also pretty good food, they are available at Petco. Blue Buffalo is also a good food and you can get it at Petsmart.

I have been using Chicken Soup for years with no problems and none of their food has been recalled. Diamond Manufacturing has also started producing the dog food for Canidae.

| lymph nodes can take along time go go away, it can be a good thing if thats what it is, it means they are fighting off bad bacteria. if you really think its cancer you need to scrape up money to have the blood work and biopsy done asap. one of my dogs had a mast cell tumor at 13 weeks that the first owners vet thought was just a cist, when i got her at 13 weeks i took her in to have a check up and right away he did a biopsy and knew what it was, she had surgery the next day. if we hadent caught it that soon it would have spidered out into her major organs fast and killed her. i strongly urge you to take him in.
