| Not drinking enough water?? I'm not sure if my 2yr old is drinking enough water.....I never seem to see her at the bowl. Maybe she takes her drinks when I'm not in the room....I always see her sister drink, though. Does anyone have furbabies that don't seem to drink alot? I'm worried because she happens to be liver-impaired. (She is on Hills LD and eats well) She is peeing and shows no signs of dehydration. I've started giving her a bit of h2o by syringe, just in case....but I don't want her to become used to this.....I'd like to see her drink on her own. Is this normal???

| Was she on the wet or dry? Dogs who eat canned food don't have to drink much of anything to meet their requirements. Ellie eats homecooked ad rarely drinks. If she is on dry, then this could have something to do with her liver. Odd symptoms in general can accompany liver disease. If she is eating kibble, you can add equal parts water to it to get her to drink. It is very important that liver compromised dogs get enough moisture because of the bladder issues that tend to accompany liver disease.

| When I was worried about Leah not getting enough water, I would give her Ice cubes to play with. That way she got water and kept her busy at the same time. |

| I use a guinea pig bottle....and my two use it like a water fountain.....and I have to refill everyday......but I see both of them taking turns even though I have 2 bottles up......so I have a pretty good idea how much they are drinking daily......I will never go back to a bowl as that gets their hair wet...

| Ellie Mae~ She's on the canned LD. Come to think of it, she started drinking much less since she's been eating the new food! It's been 3 weeks since she started the low protein diet. Her sister is on a regular diet dry food ...so that's why I see her stop and drink more! Hmmm .....Thanks!

| Canned food pretty much takes care of their water intake for the day. I probably wouldn't syringe-water her at this point, if your concerned maybe add a bit of warm water to her food. Do you plan to keep her on the prescription food? I know several people here have liver-compromised babies and have had a homecooked diet formulated for their babies which is much healthier in the long run than the Science Diet.. Just a thought! Good luck with your baby!!!!!!

| I'd love more information on a home cooked diet for liver impaired dogs. I would be grateful if anyone could share so I can discuss with my vet at our next visit. Thank you!

| Let me introduce you to Pasquale LoL For some odd reason..he's afraid of them. One fell on the floor one time....he went up to it..sniffed it...and ran away.

| If you want a recipe for a homemade diet for liver compromised dogs, it is best to contact an animal nutritionist. I have heard that Susan Davis sometimes suggests raw for liver compromised dogs and I would absolutely not do that but I'm sure she'd be happy to come up with a cooked recipe if you want to go with her. Liver compromised dogs are prone to a compromised immune system, so raw really isn't the way to go. That is totally animal protein anyway... Ellie is liver compromised and she eats homecooked.

| Not sure. I think (Wylie's Mom would know more) that she says raw meat is okay for some liver compromised dogs.
