| blood on toys. pumpkin is my first pet ever. and i've been trying my best to learn how to take care of her. i have a million questions to ask but there's something i'm more concerned about at the moment. recently i've noticed that there is blood on her toys...like her rope & kong. is it possible that the toy is too rough for her or is she just aggressive while playing? what should i do? |

| Welcome to YT! How old is Pumpkin? If she's a puppy, it's possible that she's starting to lose her baby teeth and your seeing the blood associated with that.

| Unless you are seeing a really large amount of blood, I would assume that she is just teething. Usually, it's more common for them to lose their teeth at a younger age but I have heard of some that haven't started losing them until later. There is a good chance that you won't even find any of the teeth! They are so tiny that they just end up swallowing the majority of them, or they'll get lost in your carpet, etc.. If you look in her mouth, you might notice that she's already lost some? You should watch to see if she has any "double" teeth, adults that come in before the baby tooth falls out. It is pretty common in small dogs to have to have a few of these pulled. Most people have this done at the same time they spay or neuter. Let her keep her toys. The more she chews, the quicker they will fall out and the chewing probably feels good to her. You can freeze a wet washcloth for her to gnaw on to relieve pain or try a frozen carrot.

| Has she lost all of her baby teeth? If not, then she's probably teething and I wouldn't worry. Maybe give her a cold wet rag to chew on (nothing good, just a cheapy) or get her a teething toy to chew on to make her gums feel better. If she's not teething, then I would take her to the vet.... she may be in need of a dental. Is it a lot of blood or just a few spots here and there?

| I have found a little spot here and there to. My babies are just teething. It feels good for them to bite on something when their little gummies hurt. Good luck! COCO PEBBLES TRIXIE |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with the others, she's probably teething; I just wanted to add that most Yorkies retain a few baby teeth and have to have them pulled. This is usually done when they are neutered or spayed. It's important to have it done before permanent teeth come in, otherwise a double row of teeth can cause decay, as well as misalignment of permanent teeth, leading to future dental problems. Yorkies are prone to dental problems, and it's important to get them use to tooth brushing. Many of us use a tartar preventative such a Petzlife once they have their permanent teeth. Brushing twice a week and using Petzlife twice a week seems to be keeping Joey's teeth clear of tartar.
