| Snorting/Reverse Sneezing after grooming Hi all Maybelline went for grooming this morning and after we picked her up she was snorting; I guess the reverse sneezing sound the Yorkies make. I am sure they restrained her, but we have never had this problem before. What is recommended for the snorting sound? Thanks for advice.

| Maybe they used something she was allergic to, or maybe she just got water in her nose. I don't have any advice, but I hope she's doing better soon!

| My Samie used to do this too. She has bad allergies and sometimes we deal with collapsing trachea. With that in mind I had to ask our groomer not to use any perfumed sprays afterwards. Any hairspray or perfume sprayed in our house is what triggered that so I KNEW that when I picked her up from the groomers that was why she was coughing/snorting. As soon as we had the groomer stop using the perfumed spray she no longer did this. However I am now the groomer bc Samie's collapsing trachea epidodes mixed with allergies (nasal drainage/drip= coughing as well) She has turned blue (tongue turns purple) and I can't risk losing her. Plus since we moved out of state I could not find a groomer that met my expectations. Not to mention the 2 places we went to were overcharging AND the place was a pigsty. The kennels they kept the dogs in before bathing them were DISGUSTING. I highly encourage you you to take a peek if you can behind when the grooming takes place. YUK! Hair on the floor is one thing but nasty gross kennels is another. Dogs can pick up things from other dogs that go there too so it just freaked me out. I took over the grooming with my two yorkies and have been grooming them for the past 7 yrs. It is a lot of work but I won't just take my one that does ok. I just rather do it myself. I'd ask the groomer what they use and if they do indeed use spray cologne I'd ask them to stop and see what happens. the snorting can happen when they are being rinsed but it should not continue afterwards. I'd be careful with that too and ask them if they can be extra careful not to get water up the nose. Renee aka: a very OVER protective Mom :-) |

| Sorry I got busy everyone, but Maybelline is doing better. I was very worried though, because she snorted all day until about 10PM. I was ready to go to the Animal ER down the road and was giving her 30 more minutes. I had decided that if she was still snorting after my shower I would take her because I did not want to wake up in the middle of the night with problems. When I got out of the shower she was in bed curled up next to my husband sleeping peacefully. I let her stay in bed with us till about 11:30 and she had no snorting and none since then. So maybe she did get hair or water in her nose that bothered her all day. But now I am convinced Overprotective Mom, to start grooming myself. My husband was fit to be tied when she was have trouble, he said that if the groomers had harmed her he was going to raise all kind of heck. I believe him because she has him wrapped and now he is in total Yorkie heaven!
