Donating YT 10K Club Member | There have been some threads here about yorkies with parvo. It can be treated, but it's a very difficult disease and many dogs die from it. I'm so sorry.

| Yes, this is an UGLY disease!!! I had two gorgeous show Labradors just starting out. They were brother and sister, 6 months old and had all of their inoculations. They were gone in 24 hours of first symptoms. The vets said that they had NEVER seen parvo work so fast. It also killed a little Yorkie, 4 months old, that I had decided to place in a pet home. One day she was playing fetch the toy, the next day she was so sick she could not lift her head.

| Also, remember that parvo will "stay" on your place for a year. Wherever the dog walked, slept and wherever you have touched or walked, in the car, etc parvo is still there. The only thing that kills the parvo virus is bleach and a good quality parvo-cide. Sorry for your loss. I know it is devistating.

| ^^Thank you for the info! I just need bleach? To clean everything? and where can I get parvo-cide. The vet didn't say anything about this. They weren't very comforting either.

| I am so sorry for your loss. Parvo is a horrible disease that can be prevented with vaccinations. I had a littler of pit bull puppies that I fostered and 6 of them came down with parvo. 2 passed away and the other 4 survived. When I got Emme (Yorkie) there was a possibility that she could get it and we thought that she did. She ended up have a bacterial infection in her digestive track which showed all the same symptoms as parvo and basically the same treatments. She is healthy now but it did cost a large amount of money to treat it. My experience with parvo is you have to catch it early. It normally affects darker colored dogs. All of ours were black or brown or a combo of each. As soon as symptoms happen, they have to get under vet's care in order to survive. Bleach will kill parvo and that is all that I have found that works. You can do NOTHING for it outside and it can be around for 6 years. I never let a dog go outside of my house until it has had 3 sets of shots. Babies are confined during that time to the kitchen where the floors can be bleached daily and no shoes that are worn outside can come in. You can get another dog if you choose to but you need to do a lot of bleaching before and you need to make sure the dogs gets all of its shots before you bring it home. My breeder was willing to keep my dog until I was ready for her and I also paid them to have the extra shots that they normally don't do before we brought the dog home.

Franklin got parvo at around 4-5 months. We caught it extremely early and we were fortunate enough to have him survive. It took a week in the hospital with intensive IV treatment and antibiotics. I am so sorry that you had to lose your pup. I know that it's a frightening and upsetting experience. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I did so much research that I kind of feel like a parvo expert.

| Found some: Canine parvovirus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Certain breeds, such as Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, and Pit bull terriers as well as other black and tan colored dogs may be more susceptible to CPV2" Parvo FAQs "For some reason, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, and other black and tan breeds are especially prone to Parvo, and seem to succumb to parvo faster and with less chance of recovery than any other breed."

| We had two parvo epidemics at the animal shelter I worked at. None of the animals who contracted it survived...the ones who were not immediately killed to prevent the spread of disease succumbed quickly to internal hemmoraging. I spent two weeks in an environmental hazard suit cleaning blood out of cages... It was so disheartening to come in in the mornings to find dogs lying dead in their kennels. |

YT 2000 Club Member | Ive had 2 dogs get parvo as puppies.. both survived but not with out a huge vet bill and a week or more at the vets. 1 of them a boxer mix had, had 2 set of shots and still got it, she recovered pretty quickly and only had to stay at the vet's for a few days. The other one was a black lab mix that we had gotten from someone, from a "oops" litter, out of 9 puppies 3 of them got parvo. She fell ill within 3 days of having her. She spent almost 2 weeks at the vets. She was so sick and for days it was touch and go. We were told by our vet at that time, that the female dog can pass parvo onto her puppies, even though the mom isnt sick, because once the dog get's it they can be carriers of the virus passing it on to the puppies or other animals that arent vaccinated for it. Im sorry that your pup died. Its a horrible virus.

| I'm sorry to hear of your loss, I had a beautiful White/Grey Siberian Husky die of Parvo many years ago. The vet told me that as long as the ground has had a hard freeze it would be safe for another dog.

Senior Yorkie Talker | my little lexi is a parvo survivor! -- sorry so long i picked her up from her breeder, all was well... except i wasnt too happy with my breeder (i started to realize some of the crap he had been feeding me). and the next day she had blood in her stood. we took her to the vet, and they just said she had two different parasites in her intestines, gave me meds and sent her some.. i cant remember exactly, but i think maybe two days later, she was acting really depressed and droopy so i took her back - this time with a fresh stool in hand. they tested it and came to the conclusion she had parvo. i just started to ball... they gave her fluids and actually sent her home! (looking for a new vet by the way). they told me not to bring her back for more fluids unless she was lathargic! well... needless to say, i brought her to an emergency vet at like 11pm the night after. i just knew she wouldnt make it til morning. i brought her in and as soon as i said parvo everybody freaked - they all jumped up and moved dogs around in all the kennels, they even asked me to wait outside since there were other dogs in the waiting room . blah blah blah.. anyways.. they ended up keeping her there for something like 3 nights. and they had to shave her hair.... since it was friday going on the weekend the rate was $80 a day + night. i called around 4 times a day and everyday she got better and better. sunday night i finally picked her up... but that wasnt the end of it. for about a month, she was on about 4 different meds, for parvo and her other parasites, every 3 hours. the meds lasted about 3 months ( i guess bc she was a very high risk ). but eventually she got over it and returned to be a very happy and healthy pup. as for my "breeder".... lets just say he doesnt "breed" any longer |

| I don't know why you're trying to argue with me. I just simply stated information that I had read and I also posted links to websites that said this also. I'm not claiming it as fact, but I'm pointing out that there are people who DO believe this is fact.
