HELP! Its 5.30am, Humps is sick. Hi all, I really need your help guys, I am so worried about my baby I just cannot wait until vet opens, I need some answers / leads. I had to travel far for work yesterday and had to wake up at 4, I took Humphrey out to do a wee and he did, but i did notice he picked something on the street and when I got to his mouth he had already eaten it. I couldn't see what it was beforehand because it was just soo dark out there. He was doing fine when I left, had full breakfast (he eats Puppy Hill's Science diet) and was playing around being his silly self. DH took him out again at 9, and came back home at 2pm. He went pee and poo both times and DH says he was fine. I came home at around 3.30 and found two tiny puddles on the floor, they weren't urine but something a bit ticker and clear, so I thought he had been playing with stuff and drooled on the floor - I've seen him doing that before- so I just cleaned it up and then noticed he hadn't had his lunch and when I offered him a carrot stick he refused it, then he started kind of choking and he coughed up some clear foamy liquid. I thought it was bile, and the fact that he hadnt had any lunch made me think he was very hungry, so I made him some tender chicken and rice, which he refused, then mashed some carrots which he refused as well and then I noticed he only has one frontal tooth (he is 4.5 months and his teeth are falling). Sooooo I immediately gave him some yogurt, which he devoured. I thought it was just hunger, so we went to bed at around 10 and at 4 am he did it again, and then again at 5.20am... its just a tiny little watery foam and then he is fine, and now he won't even eat yogurt... I have thought about all the possible things which might have caused it and I can only think of whatever he ate yesterday morning that I didn't catch, or the fact that the night before I was removing nail varnish with some remover and once I was done he caught me off guard and licked my toe, but that was waaaay after the removing deal had happened, about 10 minutes... I am soooo worried. Please help... is this normal for teething babies or should I just run to vet's office ASAP???

AWWWW I think you need to take Humps to the vet! You have done everything possible to make him feel better and it hasn't worked. It must have been something he ate like you said. Let us know how he is doing? Linda owner of Harmony Hershey and Pitico

Hello, Thanks for your replies. I took humphrey to the vet as soon as they opened. The vet told me it could be a gastroenteritis and suggested I left him there overnight for the nurses to keep him in observation, but since I am not working today I decided it would be better for me to monitor him at home because he gets very restless when his mommy isnt around. So she gave me some very bland dog food to feed him with a syringe as he was neither eating nor drinking. we got bck home at around 9.30 am and he spent the day sleeping, and looking miserable, but no clear foamy stuff. 10 minutes ago he did it again, and since he did not vomit any of the stuff I gave him throughout the day I decided to google his symptoms and I am afraid I was wrong all along. After watchng videos of puppies with Kennel Cough it became clear to me this is what my baby has, its as if he was gagging but nothing other than something clear and saliva-like comes up. We are going back to the Vet's first thing in the morning, its almost 7pm now... It breaks my heart to see him this miserable. Last edited by Maria85; 11-13-2008 at 10:30 AM.

It sounds to me like he ate something that isn't passing. Is he drinking? you could try a little 100% pumpkin [canned] to try to help move it through his system. make sure he keeps drinking a little regularly. keep us posted!

Hi all, So yesterday Humphrey woke up in high spirits, DH took day off to stay home with him while I worked and apparently he went back to his crazy, loving, hyperactive ways. When I came home we played tricks, I gave him a bath, we watched TV and went for a walk. Then at around 11 pm he vomited again, but this time if was food, a lot of it. We forced him to have some water before going to bed. This morning, he woke me up and threw up an orangy liquid, while he went poo poo (at the same time, but there is no diarrhea), and then we went out and he did a pee pee. His behaviour hasn't changed, he just wants to go out and play but I am getting increasingly worried. We are getting ready to go back to the veterinary clinic. I hate not being able to stop this

he could have eaten something so you need to get an xray as orangy liquid could be blood in bile as yellow and red could turn orange you need to have the xray asap and the other thing if not that is do a complete blood panel and do the add on for cpli and tli to rule out pancreatitis and if not that then could be inflammatory bowel disease as my yorkie has this and they cannot tolerate certain foods so it is a food intolerance and my dex cannot tolerate potato which are inflammatory so he would keep it down and when it would get backed up he would vomit his food. You need to rule some things out first and those two things will help - sorry you are going through this but i would not mess with this and get those two things done asap

I agree. He needs bloodwork done to see if he has pancreatitis, and infection, etc. and most definitely an xray to make sure he didn't swallow something. Please keep us posted. | |
