mass cell tumor Hi. I am new here and my little gal has a bump on her side. I went to the vet and he said it was a mass cell tumor. She is going to have it removed tomorrow. She is only 2 years old and I am so scared that the grade of the tumor may be a bad outcome. Does anyone have any experience with these type of tumors?? So scared for my little gal... Thanks in advance

| First of all "Welcome" to YT! I am so terribly sorry. I have no experience with this except that my Toto has a very large friend, Kena, who has one and due to her advanced years cannot have surgery. She is a black lab and she and Toto just adore each other. We thank God for every day we have her! Due to your babies age, I would think there should be a very good outcome! Please know that I will be praying for your little one and watching for updates! God bless you!

Thanks everyone very much. I lost my big beautiful rotte two years ago to cancer, and I got "my little gal" after she passed, and now she has it to. I am just hoping it is a grade 1 and that after removal she can be with me for many years to come... but I just am very scared...

Hi. My Newman had a mass cell tumor. His was a little different though. It was on his foot pad. Our vet who has practiced for 30 years had never seen a tumor in that area and neither did the Universities. Newman was 10 yrs. old when we lost him. We had his tumor removed right away but unfortuantely it was a stage III. Because it was on his foot it was very hard to do the parameters to ensure it was all gone. His cancer spread to his liver and we had to make the decision to let him go. I've done a lot of research and from what I've read Mass Cell Tumors are the most common and are generally found on in the areas like your little girl. Most are non-cancerous or low cancer but they do come back. I'm sorry about your little girl. I'm sure she will be fine. I'll keep you both in my thoughts. Elaine.

I think you mean mast cell tumor. If you google it you will get lots of information. They are the most common type of skin tumor found in dogs. The outcome depends on what stage etc so you really have to wait for a biopsy to tell. I hope it has a good outcome. My T.J. had a tumor removed from his intestine in June 2007. His prognosis was very poor and he was given weeks to a couple months to live but he is doing well right now and I'll take whatever time I have left with him. Good luck. I'll keep you in my thoughts
