| neutering incision! Roscoe was neutered last Thursday [one week ago exactly] the day before we got him. I think everything is fine, but I just thought the incision would look more healed that it does now. He is not licking it obsessively-just occasionally and he stops whenever we say no. I tried to limit his activity for the first few days but it is getting really hard now b/c he is a youngin'-running and playing etc etc. There is no discharge and he doesn't seem to be in pain but the incision still looks fresh to me-not like it is healing up. Is this normal for only one week after surgery? How long did it take your lil guys to heal up after being fixed? Thanks!

even though he seems fine, it could be the pain meds working which is making him feel great, but he can still cause damage to his little incision! just watch him real well. neutring is such an easier process than spaying is. It can still get infected from the inside, so just be careful!

| Even though it looks like it hasn't made much progress, it's likely still fine. For the first week (although I have a female) it didn't really look like it was healing all that fast. Then when it got closer to the time when she was having the sutures removed, it started looking really really good and healed pretty quick. As long as there's no discharge coming from it like you said that's great. Remember, if you're at all concerned, you could always ask your vet what to look for exactly in case it's infected or not healing properly. |

| thanks that makes me feel better! he was never even on pain meds, so he truly does seem to feel fine. I was just expecting it to be healed too quickly i guess. he will lick it every once in awhile--im sure he is itching but no biting or scratching. I read somewhere that putting vitamin e oil around the site [not directly on] will relieve the itch and help speed up healing. anyone heard of this? i'm almost scared to touch it, though. i'm really paranoid when it comes to my babies! hah

| Spike got a little infection around his neutering site and was on antibiotics. I could tell it was infected though, because it was red and inflamed and he was lethargic and unwell. If you puppy doesn't have any of these symptoms, then I'm sure he's healing normally. I'm not sure about vitamin E oil, but when Spike had his infection, I put Germolene on it, which is an (human use) antiseptic cream with a local anesthetic in it. You can only buy it in Britain I think, but the North American equivalent would be something like Polysporin or Ozonol. Although they are meant for human use, my vet said that they would work for Spike's skin infections, too. If you can get one with local anesthetic, that should help with the itching! |

| dont put vitamin e! although it is very good for scars they must be completely healed. at least for me and my surgery my dr said it could speed up infection. if hes really itchy try plain no scent lotion like a eucerin brand or something. |
