| Please help me! Dior jumped off the couch :( Hi everyone...please help me or just reassure me that everything will be ok. I had the worst first weekend with my new baby teacup Dior. I brought Dior on Friday * 2 weeks ago* and that following Sunday he jumped off the couch and hurt his elbow. I took him to the emergency room and the doctor said he needed surgery and all this other stuff. Well my uncle use to be a surgeon vet so afterwards I took the xrays and Dior to my uncle so he could look at them and he said he didn't need surgery It has been two weeks and we took his cast off yesterday and my uncle said everything looked fine, he wasn't in any pain and was being a normal puppy, really busy! My question, concern is...how long will it take for his leg to get healthy again? Its really skinny and I don't think he's gotten used to having it again. My uncle says he only bruised or sprained it and that he should recover quickly....please help! |

| You never said whether you had the surgery done. If you didn't, and if it was just a sprain, then it sounds like the leg is already pretty good if he's being active after getting his cast off. He might just need to strengthen it after not using it for a couple weeks. It should be good in a week. If you did opt for the surgery or if the leg was broken, I wouldn't let him exercise the leg too much, and would certainly not let him jump down from furniture. Good luck with the recovery! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and WELCOME !!! Well, if your uncle is a surgeon vet, he should surely know better than us - so I guess I would trust his answer. The issue is that his muscle is weak right now from not having been used (in the cast) - so I'd make sure he was very careful with it. Also, many of us have little "stairs" for the smaller guys - by the sofa and/or by the bed and you can teach them to use those so they don't jump down. At your pups young age though, falling off is such an issue bc he hasn't yet learned about heights, most likely - so I'd never leave him unattended on a sofa or bed.
