| Best way to give SQ treatment We are new to SQ therapy. What is the best way to administer to my baby? Julz doesn't like to be restrained and wiggles away and creates a big deal out of getting the needle (can't blame her) but we have to do this. We have sat on the floor to make it more comforting for her but that doesn't work, should we just put her on the table and keep it consistant so she can relate the two and realize "it must be done"...Any input on how you've done it and was successfull would be helpful...

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I used to have to give it to my cat and I'd cuddle her. How 'bout you grab a bully stick/chew, put Julz in your lap, and hold the chew while the fluids are going in? Maybe that'll keep her still for awhile.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i find it easiest and fastest to get a good flow if you have them up on a table with the bag held as high as you can make it. is she used to standing on a grooming table? it might be easier that way

| My daughter and I would do it together. We would put Pepper on the kitchen table, on a fluffy comforter, and my daughter would steady her at the shoulders (Pepper usually spent the time giving kisses to my daughter) and I would administer the needle and get the fluid going. I would hang the bag from the light fixture I have over the table to keep the flow going. Some days were easier than others, she could be very wiggly too. Of course, I was always nervous that I was hurting her too, which really wasn't the case. When we first started there were a few websites that gave some tips, and visuals. I don't remember the exact ones, but if you do a search on Kidney Disease and Sub-Q's you will find some more information. Best wishes and prayers coming to you and Julz. Wendy |
