| Please advice I thin Mocha just ate a stapler Oh god oh god.. I thought i have thrown all the staplers from the shopping bags away, but just now she was on my bed and she started chewing and I heard something crunchy. I immediately poked my finger on her mouth and throat but I didn't get anything. I kept poking around for a while but nothing. She was biting my fingers the whole time, made it really difficult to feel anything. Help. What am I supposed to do. It is 4AM in my place. I don't even KNOW it was a stapler or anything else.. I even rummaged through the shopping bags to see if any staplers were missing. It was no help, there was alot of garbage in it.. What have i done.. PLEASE HELP... I am near tears...

| Are you referring to a small metal staple? If so, might it be too small for you to hear a crunching sound? Do you think it was closed, with no sharp ends? Assuming it's a metal staple call a vet as soon as possible to get advice on whether an x-ray is needed. If you have to wait, and she goes to the bathroom, carefully check her feces to see if it passed. Sorry, I can be a better help. I hope everything is okay. | Yes I am refering to a small metal staple. Yes if it WAS s staple, it was open. I bought a quiche from Coffee bean and ate it in my bed. It had 2 staples to keep the paper bag closed. I thought I had put it in the bag. I threw the bag out and went on to my bed.. then Mocha asked to be put on the bed.. and I did.. not long after, I heard some crunching sound. I cannot think of anything else she might find on my bed that will cause some crunching sound. I even went and checked the paper bag.. there was only one staple.. but I dunno if it fell to the bottom of the trash. I cannot find the other one. I will call the vet at 10, thts when they open. I'm just so scared right now. 6 hours is a lot of time. Should I give her something to eat right now? to help make it pass or soemthing? I am surfing the net like crazy to find some help.

| It is hard for me to imagine that the small staple I visualize would make an audible crunching sound. I don't know what to tell you to do. I'd be inclined to give her some food, but wait for a little bit. Maybe someone more knowledgable than me will have better advice. |

| I found this link for your consideration, and discussion with your vet. Seems to support giving her food. Again, wait for someone else to answer. Dogs That Swallow Sharp Objects Last edited by bildio; 10-10-2008 at 02:04 PM. |

| Ok I just went through the trash again. I found what I think is the other staple. It looks similar to the other one, so I think it comes from the same bag. I will post the picture soon, I just had to post this 1st. If this staple is from the same bag, then Mocha didn't swallow a staple thank god.

| Here it is. I'm sorry if I caused some kind of confusion with staple/stapler.. I was in such a panic. I might have missed the other staple the 1st time also because of panic. Goodness. I was already crying when I couldn't find anything in her mouth. *blush* Thank you SOOOO much for the help, Bildio. The link you gave didn't go to waste too, it's very useful for me. Who knows what she will swallow next I will still check her poop in the morning.

| Yes, I thought if we clarified the staple/stapler question, it would speed up getting a helpful answer. I just had an incident with my guy. He got into my niece's room where he usually picks up stuff from the floor that he shouldn't. I heard him chewing on something crunchy, and knew it couldn't be good. I reached into his mouth, with him shaking his head and pushing my hand away with his paw, trying to remove it. I couldn't feel anything, so I ran and found some food thinking he would drop what was in his mouth while eating the food. He ate the food, and didn't drop anything. I reached into his mouth and found something long and thin in the back of his mouth, likely part way in his throat. I pulled it out. It was like a long fish bone, but I think it was plastic. He is very good at hiding stuff in his mouth. Last edited by bildio; 10-10-2008 at 02:36 PM. |

| Goodness! I am so sorry!! In your pre-occupation to help me, your guy had an incident. Quote:
I have an 8 year old sister (we have 16 years difference) and I just hate it when she comes into my room to play with Mocha Mocha jumps around to play, and she gets scared Who knows if in her fright she might reflexively swing a hand or a foot. And she always leaves her toys scattered around. Polly Pocket, Barbie shoes, Silvenian dolls, you name it. Taking Mocha out of my room is a chore - I have to scout the floor with eagle eyes to see what's around, then only bring her down. Mocha also goes up the stairs on her own - we have to fence the stairs so she doesn't go up when nobody's watching. I agree, they are very good in hiding things in their mouth. My thumb is sore everyday lately.

| Thank you for the concern. I will stay up until it's breakfast time around 8/9AM and see if she poops then. I will check all her poop today to see if she passes anything, or if it's unusual. I will update by morning. Thank you everyone.

I made sure my niece's door was closed after my incident. Several minutes later I walked by, and saw that her door was open, and you know who was in her room chewing on something. Turns out, her latch is broken, so he just pushes the door open. Never a dull moment. | |

I know! Never a dull moment. I love her to bits, but she exhaust me. Which might be kinda good, as everybody's been saying that I look as if I have lost weight Wherever I go I have to scout, drag her pad + padframe along, and a couple of chew toys. Oh well, I am just grateful she's actually almost fully potty trained, and she doesn't chew my mom's white leather couch.
