| Need Help-Giardia! I just found out my new puppy has Giardia and I am freaking out because I have two other dogs that may now be infected! The new puppy has been at my house for almost a week now and I got the results today. She has been mostly kept in an x-pen but has been let out to socialize with the other dogs. My other dogs are 7 months and 1 year old. She has only pooped in her pen and my other dogs have not been too near her as they were a little freaked out by her (She is a mini Boston Terrier). I am getting my other dogs tested today and keeping them away from her. I have a few questions. I have my two dogs downstairs where there is carpeting. What would be the best way to disinfect should it turn out that they are infected? What kind of reimbursement should I expect from the person I got my new puppy from?

| I just got back the results for my two dogs and it is negative but I will have to get them tested again to make sure they do not have Giardia. In the meantime, Occhi my new puppy will be in quarantine. Should I expect reimbursement from the person I got my puppy with Giardia from for the cost of the tests for my other two dogs? Need your advice.

If you have a contract, your vet fees should be reimbursed.....even if you don't and your breeder is reputable, he/she should offer to pay without being asked.....

| I am having quite a difficult time with Occhi. She keeps eating her poop which prevents her from recovering from Giardia quickly. I am trying For-Bid but so far no luck. I talked to the lady I got her from and she was apprehensive about the fees she owes me. It really ticked me off because she was not apologetic about the situation. Aside from the money, it's become a huge headache. She insists that I take the issue to her vet who is a lot cheaper than mine. I don't know what to do about this. I wonder what my rights are.....

No, you have the right to take the dog to your vet. Do you have a contract? Well no matter if she is responsible and a reputable breeder she should refund you your vet fees. I might warn you, you may have to just chalk it up or take her to small claims court.

| My cousins's friend had purchased two Bulldogs which were infected with gardia too he didn't know and he let them free with his other dog a boston who caught it and when he called the breeder the breeder explained to him that the puppy he had kept had diarhea and the vet confirmed it was gardia indeed. My cousins friend's Boston was sick with Diarhea and puking and was becoming very ill. The breeder told him he was very sorry and said he would pay for everything vet bills, medication and food. Which imo was very nice of him to do, which is the right this to do as a responsible and reputable breeder even though it was not stated in his contract. Good luck, whishing the best for your babies! Oh and my mom has a baby boston and she does the same thing eating her poo, we read on the net to give plain yorgurt... and it worked!

| What would be my rights in small claims court? Unfortunately, I do not have a contract, only a verbal that guarantees 2 week health. I notified her 3 days after bringing the pup home as well as give her a letter from my vet with lab report a week later.

Your breeder should also, be responsible enough to pay the vet bills for your other dogs. My feeling is that she knew the pup was sick, and didn't tell you, allowing you to infect your other dogs. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this......I don't know who your breeder is. Evidently she's not very responsible BYBer. Do you know if she is an AKC breeder?

| She did not come straight from a breeder unfortunately. My groomer was selling her and her brother. Her brother sold right away but she had been there for quite some time. No one was interested and I felt so bad for. She looked so sad, thin, and lonely. I know I shouldn't have done it but I wanted to give her a good home and now this.... Here is a pic of her.
