| my dad just got layed off and she can't afford to take her but this morning she had diarrhea in her bed she weighs about 15lbs and she threw up this morning and just was lazy all day, she went out side and had a normal stool and then she chases a lizard and she went back inside and about 5 hours later she threw up about 4 times, my mom just doesn't know what to do because she doesn't have the money to take her, it's horrible

| If it was just diarrhea I would recommend feeding plain cooked rice and a tiny bit of canned pumpkin (not pie filling, 100% pumpkin, it's in the baking aisle) BUT with vomitting too I would go to the vet. One or the other and I'd do a wait and see, but *both* is concerning. There are just doggy viruses out there that are like what we get and last a couple days, so if they are certain that she did not get into anything and she is at least drinking water, I'd not try to feed her anything if she refuses to eat it. I dunno the pepto thing scares me because of the "extra" ingredients. You need to call the vet to get the dosage anyway. Call any ER vet that is open and they will give you the dosage. The only problem is that like, when do we need pepto? When we overindulge or eat greasy food... dogs don't really do that unless they get into something. If they have persistent diarrhea, they have it for a reason and you have to find out what that is. |

You can use Pepto or Pepcid AC (only, not complete). For Pepto, give 1 teaspoon per 5 lbs. every 6 hours. For Pepcid AC, give 1/4 of a 10 mg. tablet 2 times daily. I would us the Pepto for diarrhea/stomach upset and the Pepcid AC for an upset stomach without diarrhea. I hope that helps. I just lost my job too and it is very stressful by itself but to have a sick pet as well would make things even worse.

| I feel so bad for you, I totally understand. I would TRY the PEPTOBISMOL (or the Walmart brand if you have it)....the only thing is, they will HATE the taste of it and they might throw it up too. But even if you can get a little bit down, it might help. The Pepcid AC you can also buy at Walmart (it's called Equate Acid Controller and says Famotidine 10 mg) You can buy any generic Famotidine 10 mg tablets and if she's 15 lbs, you can give her a whole tablet (my Madison weighed 7 lbs and the vet put him on 1/2 tab per day and he's been doing GREAT). You can also try giving her a LITTLE boiled rice....maybe boil it in chicken broth so it tastes better and boil it so that it's very soft so it's easily digested. Give her just a LITTLE bit, if she'll eat it and watch to see if it stays down. If it does after a half hour or so, and she's hungry, you can give her half of what she would normally be eating and watch to see how she does. If a dog is really really sick, they probably won't eat anything. If the vomiting continues, I'd def. get hold of a vet (naturally it's the weekend$$$), but see if you can work something out with them. Also try Care Credit....the vet will have the info for you if you need it. Good luck, sweetie, let us know how the little one is doing!

| I would not give anything but water for 24 hours to rest the gut and let whatever is irritating it to pass. I give my girls 1/2 of a Pepto caplet for diarrhea. That usually stops it. The vomiting is concerning. You will want to give some nutrical or Karo syrup to keep blood sugar up, and encourage water to prevent dehydration. Beyond that, I would certainly be calling a vet. Most will work out a payment plan.

| I hope she feels better soon! The most important thing to me is that there is no blood in the vomit/stool and that she is drinking water.
