after seeing that lot of you have given your yorkies benadryl for their ichy skin i tried it on lulu,it never worked,i was up with her most of the night,don't want to keep taking her to the vet's they put her on steroids which i'm not happy about,please help if you have any ideas that would be great

Have you ruled out food allergies? What are you feeding?

Can you please give us some more info?

How long has she been itching? Where does she itch? Does she have any raw/red skin or blisters or black spots? What food does she eat? What treats? Can it be fleas, or maybe allergic to flea bites? What kind of laundry detergent do you use? Do you use any fabric softeners? What kind or shampoo does you use? Do you use any conditioner on her? Or any other 'hair' products on her? Anything else you can share would be great!

i have tried her on alot of different foods recommended to me which have not worked

Have you compared the ingrediants in these foods? Like if she's allergic to corn (my Reese is)...and everything you've tried contains corn...well obviously she'd still be itching. Chicken is another ingrediant that can cause problems.

If it's flea related...benedryll won't help there either.

lulu has been iching now for about 3 months,some times her skin get red raw from itching,i have also noticed small black dots on her,she only itches on her legs feet and belly,i use non biological unperfumed soap powder,i use shampoo i got from the vets,i also put frontline on her once a month the vet thinks it might be grass allergy,i am having paving slabs laid in 2 weeks so there will be no grass in the garden so i have to wait to see if that works,

If you take some of those small black dots...and place them on a slightly moistened paper towel...if they turn reddish...it's flea dirt. Frontline doesn't always work for every animal.

I'm not sure who you're asking....but if it's me. I switched from Royal Canine to Wellness Fish and Sweet potato. No corn and no chicken....and no more itchie Reese.

Well frontline works for my dogs, but not my friend's dog....she uses Advantage instead. I think Advantix is another...

Try wetting some of those black spots...that will tell you if it's fleas.

Frontline didn't work for my Mandy who is allergic to fleas. My Krissy chewed all the hair of both back legs and her tummy before we found she was allergic to grass. If she stays off all grasses and takes benedryl, uses special shampoo and creme rinse she is fine.

thankyou again bchgirl going to try that food if i can get it here in northern ireland,going to try every thing you all recommend and i'm sure ill get there in the end i will do anything i can to give my poor baby some peace from scratching thank you all for replys

Hey, My Yorkie has the ichies, and I bath him in a shampoo by Redken that is for dandrif, it is thier Scalf Relief type,,a good salon will carry it. Don't get it in your yorkies eyes, let it sit on the skin for 60 seconds or so, it really works to sothe,,I have not had problem in years, and he is on no special diet for itchy skin. He is on the pill type flea, tick and heartworm med.
