| Peppee Needs Your Prayers!!! Peppee has been admitted into the emergency vet hospital and isn't doing so well. Yesterday morning I took everyone outside to go take their breaks..Peppee went down behind the house...like normal and went into the higher layer of grass right by the small stream that runs behind my house. I hollered at him to come back, but of course he usually doesn't until he either ready or I come down after him. I am not sure what happened, (I am thinking he either ate a dead animal, bird, mouse or something)or the water may be stagnet down there...the pond that it runs to is very stagnet(sp) right now..so it very well could have been just a matter of him drinking the water, which he will drink from any puddle. Anyway, I took them all out about 5:30-6:30 am...and about 10ish is when he started throwing up. and continued all day...here and there but was still active and eating, drinking. I went off to work and when I returned home there was a large amount of diarhea all over the living room floor and kitchen floor...and it had the weirdest smell...I left him out of his crate all night, with him sleeping in our bed. He threw up the one time and soaked through our 3 comforters and sheets (2)...he is only 4lbs! At this time he still wasn't lethargic or anything...you could tell he was sick, but again, he was still eating and drinking so I thought it was running its course and decided that if it continued I would take him to the emergency vet today So, I took a couple of pictures of him before we left for the vet..still looking "ok". Fast forward an hour after we got to the vet you could just tell he was getting more and more uncomfortable and before long he was moaning with every inhalation. FINALLY the vet came in and told me to put him on the floor to see what he would do...nothing. So once back on the table, we discovered that he was just leaking fluid from his anus..and that smell...the smell of metal (blood) So here he tells me that the lining in his stomach is probably tarnished that it appears to be a bacteria (that I am sure he picked up from that damn stream...that isn't moving!) So I admitted him and he ran a blood panel and just called to let me know that Peppee is very dehydrated, naturally, and he has an extremely high white count, stating that the bacteria had reached his bloodstream. So, they are pumping a couple of antibiotics into him right now and will retest come tomorrow.....so please keep him in your thoughts! I don't know what I'll do if I lose him! whew...sorry so long...It has been such an emotional day! Thanks for you support!

| We just went through something like that, I'll paste the info from antoher web site, I hope your little guy gey better, It took 4 days on IV and Antibiotics for our little Maya, she's 4.5 lbs. Apparently it happens with small dogs but also affects all dogs. Google HGE Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE) Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) usually causes a very sudden onset of vomiting, bloody diarrhea, dehydration and depression. Dogs affected by this condition get very sick, very fast. To the best of my knowledge, the exact cause of this disease is unknown. It appears that Clostridium species bacteria may be part of the cause. The disease is more frequent in small breed dogs but can occur in any dog. I am not sure what the general impression is among veterinarians, but dogs that have this problem seem to have a high risk of getting it again in our practice. Most dogs respond very well to treatment with fluids to restore hydration. In some cases it is necessary to give plasma to correct loss of protein and antibiotics to combat the suspected Clostridium infection. In a few dogs, it is necessary to give fast acting cortisones to counter shock, which is a problem due to the very rapid onset of dehydration in dogs with HGE. It is generally necessary to totally restrict oral food and water for one or two days when treating this problem. This makes hospitalization necessary for several days for most dogs with HGE. |

| Pictures of Pep These are pictures before and at the vet...look what a drastic turn he had! First one was right as we put him in his basket..because he looked so cute! Then about an hour into the waiting... Finally, right after the dr. left the room to get the nurse to come take him away. The last one just breaks my heart! I have never seen him lay like that. He usually is a bit squimish with new people, shakin in his paws...he didn't even move a muscle. So sad!

I wish I would have realized how bad it was last night..but he really wasn't "acting" off other than the clear throw-up...we both figured he was just passing it through...Zeus will throw up like that after being real active or chewing up a human. lol I am thankful though that we didn't take them to the kennel...I think the way the doctor is talking, I probably would have gotten a call that he passed away.
