Kallie has been throwing up and having diahrea off and on since July 5th. She has had runny mucousy poop with a little blood and she is vomiting off and on.. She has been pooping in her crate which is not like her.. She has an appt for Wednesday morning and she has been somewhat ok and then tonight I was gone for 2 hours and came home to find 4 piles of vomit and 4 piles of diahrea....She had a fecal exam done a few days ago and it was negative...I gave her a little pepto tonight after I found the messes and within 30 minutes she pooped in her crate....It smells HORRIBLE as it should I guess, but I do not know what could be wrong with her...She is eating Chicken Soup for the Soul and the only thing that has changed in her diet is that I have given her a couple of those rawhide chew bones that she eats.. Also, she will eat anything wether it is etible or not so I am not sure if she got into something..I posted on July 5th about her being lost for an hourand when she came back and nursed, thirty min later all the puppies and her had it coming out of both ends.. The puppies were fine the next day and Kallie is still doing it...WHAT is wrong with her???

Awww I hope she gets better soon. I know it's tough when your baby is sick and you don't know why. Are her gums pink? How is her eye response? Does she walk funny? Is she eating normally? Personally I'd recheck the poo for parasites or something. At least do it under a microscope so you can see what is actually in there. I'd have them do a complete blood panel with liver levels and such. Hopefully then you might be able to find some answers.

So you haven't changed her food, is she eating? If she is eating raw hides that could be upsetting her stomach, those aren't good for yorkies or any dogs. I would be scared that she is doing from both ends. I hope you find out something or maybe you need to try another vet. It never hurts to have a 2nd opinion if you don't agree with the first one. Or you don't think there is any improvement. I hope she will get better soon.

Rawhide is very dangerous for dogs. She needs to see your vet asap:

A processed rawhide can shrink up to half its original size when dried. When rawhide is again wetted, usually when your pet salivates over this chew you have provided, it will slowly regain its original size. When your pet tears off and swallows a piece, that piece then has the potential to swell inside your dog’s stomach. Your dog’s gastric juices WILL NOT break down the rawhide. Once swollen, the piece then has the potential to cause anything from mild to severe gastric upset, to death.

Consider the rawhide as LadyMom suggested. You might also have your vet check for coccidia. Even if a fecal came back clean once, that doesn't necessarily rule it out.

That's what I have been told about rawhide. Hot Rod got one for xmas and he did have a little bit of loose poo and when I told the person who had it given it to him that it could cause that. Hope little Kallie feels better.

Thank you everyone, I plan on calling my vet at 8 when they open and seeing if they can get her in sooner...I asked about coccidia and they said that they would have seen it in her fecal sample...If they cannot get her in, then I will see if they can atleast check another sample...

Ladymom, what if the rawhide is what is wrong with her, what is the treatment?

Raw hide can sure cause bowel upsets for many Yorks, mine get none and ...if she were mine, I would take her off her food, feed her boiled chicken and rice for a week with doses of K AM/PM...when her stool was firm, I would stop the K and still feed chicken and rice for another week..then I would slowly add a dry kibble to the c/r more each week until she is back to kibble if you want to go to just dry, but I would add veggies, meats and cottage cheese to the dry, give her a variety of foods slowly to desensitize her stomach..JMO I used to have lots of problems with this until I varied my Yorks diet...now they eat anything and never had a bowel problem...

PS..I had several who barfed and pooped non-stop if they chewed raw hides...I had to be careful...

PSS...raw hide from South America can have toxic chemicals used when tanning the hides...regs are very lax...

Aiden loves to chew,and besides shoes and kongs etc,what are the best Yorkie chews??? I ordered Bully sticks,and people have negative remarks about them also. Hon,I"m sorry to take over you thread...I hope your vet gets to the bottom of all this. Yorkies have very sensitive digestive systems,and my older dog doesn't. I have to give Pongo things without Aiden being around,because he wants Pongo treats. Aiden get diarrhea or constipated if he gets ahold of anything different. It can be very frustrating. Good Luck, and let us know what the vet comes up with.

I feed beef marrow bones. They are extremely safe, inexpensive and almost indestructable. I usually have my butcher cut a beef shank (marrow bone) into 3/4" to 1" slices (see photos). I cook the shank and make a stew or soup for human (or doggie) dinner and clean up the bones before giving them to the kids. When the bones get too slimy I stick them in the dishwasher.

I have been doing this for about 5 years. All the yorkies chew on the bones as well as Boo the Boxer. In that time I have lost a multitude because the kids hide them never to be found, but I have only had to throw one away because it had serious dents in it.

There is a lot of controversary about feeding cooked vs raw bones. This setup has worked for me. These bones have a thick wall 1/4" to 1/3" and do not splinter.

I've not been giving Johnny any rawhide because the vet thought he had food allergies. This might be something to try.

it also sounds like your baby's tummy is irriated and the kibble may be too irritating for her now. I would feed her some boiled chicken breast and a little steamed rice and maybe a small amount of steamed veggies. Something more bland so the tummy can rest and heal from irritation. I am sure your vet will give you the direction you need but for now her tummy is not able to hold anything for long. and the poop is not a good thing either..I give mine a tiny tast of imodim ad (and I do mean just a tiny taste on the toung) and it clears it up...just like with you or me.

hope she gets some relief real soon...

I give mine Nyla-bones starting at the age of 6 weeks and have rarely given anything else.. once they have started with raw hides, pigs ears etc, it is hard to get them interested in Nyla-bones..mine go through one per month each.

Poor Kallie and poor you too. I can just hear the frustration in your post. Ask if your vet sends out the stool samples for microscopic examination. It sounds like giardia. Here is a link to read about it. It says it is hard to diagnose because protozoa are not passes in EVERY stool. Hope your baby is better soon.
