| Purple ears I dont post here much, but since i care for my boys I want to ask a question. Ryoko's ears have a purple tinge to the edge of one of them. I noticed it last time i trimmed his ears and now its gotten a little darker and the hair is thinner. I am thinking the other ear looks like it may turn purple two. I cant find anything on the net and I think i saw this subject when i was an active member before but cant find it here. I want to know if anyone knows how to treat this and if it can spread to my other Yorkie... is it some kind of infection and if so how could he have gotten it. Thanks in advanced The Princess *** never mind i think both my boys have this... they have so much hair on their heads I didn't notice right off. only ryoko's ear hair is thinning right now and thas why I noticed his this week. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Without seeing it's hard to say but it could be something called "leather ear", I believe it a fungus, if I'm not mistaken.

Senior Yorkie Talker | I am a paramedic (not a vet) but to me purple or blue means that oxygen is not getting to the cells. It could be due to lack of circulation (massaging the ears could help with this) an infection (in which in this case the infection can cause a mild isolated septic shock and shunt the blood away from the tips of the ears this is not as bad as it sounds) As far as the doggie info im not sure, but this is normally the case in humans. I hope this helps and if not i hope your little one gets better. |
