| Sick 9 day old baby The baby is sick. She has been doing NOTHING. I pick her up and her head flops to the side but then she picks it up and cries. Very lethargic and just seeming not ok. CLEAR discharge from the nose. Just a little and is yawning A LOT. I listened to her chest and she seems congested so I called the vet at 430 and rushed in. She said the baby is fat, so is eating. Not congested BUT is working hard to breath. I asked why, she said maybe mama jumped on her and bruised her. She said not to keep her on a heating pad maybe she was to hot. Said antibiotics may hurt more than help since she could get them in her lungs. She also said something about fading puppy syndrome but said our baby doesnt fit the classic bill since she is not crying. She said to watch her but as long as she does eat she can't help much. Said if she stoped eating all we can do is bottle feed her. I feel very helpless right now. She seems so still. I keep checking and I am so very afraid I might check and she won't be with me any more. |

I Love My Babies Donating Member | Owww my heart goes out to you. I am so sorry your baby is sick. Have you called another vet for a second opinion? I wish I knew what to tell you. Prayers and hugs to you and your baby.

Prayers and hugs to you and your baby.[/QUOTE I went to this vet ( even though she is really expensive) because I thought she would be the best one to help me. She is also a yorkie breeder, a really awsome one at that for 25 years. I will take her to the reg vet tomorow but I think he will say the same thing just because she is still so young. I am sleeping right next to them. Ill keep watch every 2 hours tonight. |

I just hope she hangs in there. If it's a bruise it will heal, she just needs to fight a little.

| Now I question the vet. She said she has been unable to save her own " fading puppies" My girl is eating but I stand ready if she stops. She also had me take her heating pad. i am going to put it under the box so she doesnt get too hot but i don't want her to get chilled. The link said Mom may let them get chilled if they don't move around much. My girl isn't moving much. |

| Not any better today. She is eating but is gasping for air. Not constant. She breathes hard but then every 10 min or so she curls her tongue in a u shape and yawns but now the yawn is over and over more like a gasp. Im taking her to another vet and I did give her a breathing treatment. |

| I am so sorry your baby is hurting. Have they x-rayed her? I lost a puppy once because she had a ruptured diaphragm and she acted like how you are describing. We suspect the momma dog jumped up out of excitement and landed in the middle of the puppy's stomach, causing the diaphragm to rupture. There was nothing the vet could do to save her. She was 5 weeks old. I wonder also if your puppy could have a neck injury? I pray she will get better. |

| I would think you wouldn't want the baby to be chilled. Is she nursing still? It would be very easy for her do go into hypoglycemic shock at this age....she has no reserves. Do you have any Nutri-Drops on hand? Have you taken the baby's temp? Does she seem dehydrated? I have some Nutri-Drops on hand and live in the same city as you. If you want, PM me your Phone #.....I'll call you and get it over to you. I saw in your post she was eating but if she's weak she may not be getting much. Making sure she's properly nourished at least heads off her going downhill due to being weak. Last edited by Woogie Man; 07-10-2008 at 05:19 PM. |

This gets worse and worse, everything I read and anyone I talk to says if their baby acted this way, s/he died. Vet did not see need for a x-ray/ Im taking her to a new vet first thing in the am. I have the number to the emergency vet, they said they would do a breathing treatment but I did one on her. If she was older they would do more. why do people seem to think the tiny ones are not worth helping? Or are they just too small?

| I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I really hope she is better soon. When a puppy is gasping for air that is never a good sign. I am praying that she will perk up soon!!

| Todays update. First I would like to thank the YT member who drove to burger king at 930 last night to give me some vit drops for the baby. I drove home, gave her the drops and at 11pm gave her another breathing treatment and put her to bed. I checked on her every 2 hours. Gave another breathing treatment at 8am along with drops at 7am. I plan to do another tonight before bed. She is still working hard to breath but most of the time her mouth is closed. So while I am still worried she seems to be doing better. I made it so gracie cant jump on her getting in and out as well. |

| Thanks for the update. I 'm glad to hear that she seems to be doing better. What a great job you're doing and she seems like a little fighter. YT members are great here. That was awesome what she did. |
