| Extremely Swollen Lymph Nodes- Help!!! I have a one year old yorkie that just had his baby teeth removed two and a half ago. The vet said he had very bad gum disease from the teeth being in such bad shape (I recently rescued him and the owners did not take good care of him). I had bloodwork done on him prior to the tooth removal and all vital organs checked out fine. He was put on Clindamycin for a week because his lymph nodes under his neck were swollen and the vet said it was probably from the teeth. The lymph nodes are still swollen two weeks later. They are both the size of a large marble. He was put on another round of antibiotics (Amoxicillin) on Wednesday. Does anyone know if I should I already be seeing an improvement if this is an infection? The vet wants to test him for cancer if this second round of antibiotics does not help. I don't see how such a young dog would have cancer? How common is cancer in such a young dog? I am just so worried!! Any advice would be helpful!! |

| If he has very swollen lymph nodes, I would be calling the vet asap. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would call the vet asap it probably is an infection. Pixie, my 2 1/2 year old had her dental done 4 weeks ago and she had bad gum disease and 5 teeth removed. My vet put her on 3 days of antibiotics before she would do surgery and 5 days after. So hopefully a different antibiotic will help. Pixie was on Anitrobe aquadrops antibiotic. Hope you baby is ok.

| Wouldn't it be better by now if it was an infection though? |

| I would think if it was an infection the antibiotics would have improved it. But in order for an antibiotic to work you have to use the correct one for the infection. Hopefully this one works. Keeping you in our prayers.

| I know that when a person has an active infection in thier mouth, dentists normally have them take a course of antibiotics, then do the procedures when the infection is gone. I don't know if it is the same in animals, but I'd get that baby into the vet asap. From what I understand, doing dentalwork when an infection is already presen can cause major problems Praying that your baby is all better soon!

| I asked the vet's office when I scheduled his appointment 10 days before the surgery if he needed to come in and be checked beforehand because I knew his teeth were REALLY bad. They told me that he would be fine because they would give him a shot of antibiotics before the surgery and send him home with some as well if he needed them. The swelling in them did ease off a good bit a few days after the removal. But now they are swollen back up, and bigger than before. If they were so sure that he had an infection to begin with then I don't understand why they would mention CANCER and get me all worried. I honestly don't know if they are giving him enough amoxicillin. He weighs three pounds and he is taking 25 mg twice a day. I wonder if I should go for a second opinion before they start doing all the testing for cancer. I know all of the tests can get really expensive. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would get a second opinion before extensive testing since it is so close to her dental procedure. Hope she feels better soon!
