Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Marcel was bitten by Fire Ants this morning! I was getting ready this morning and Tony had let the boys in from outside. I felt Marcel doing "figure 8's" around my feet and he just kept going - so I looked down - and his body was rounded and tail totally tucked and he was shaking like crazy. So I scooped him right up and could not figure out what was wrong, but knew something was wrong - so I went in by Tony and I'm all "something's WRONG!!!" - all of a sudden an ant crawls from Marcel to my hand. And immediately I knew he'd been bitten by ants. Poor baby! So, of course dork-ily, my first dumb thought is "I need to get on YT!" (clear sign of addiction) - but then my common sense returned and then I remembered when this happened to Tatum so severely. So, we gave him liquid children's benadryl immediately, nutrical and searched his entire body - we only found about 5 ants. He likes to eat grass sometimes and he had little pieces of grass on his face - we found about 3 ants in his beard, so I think he was bitten in the face. Luckily, that was the extent of it - and after about 15 minutes he was fine and back to himself - but omg was he terrified and he wanted his Momma so badly, poor little fella. So, just be careful because these ants are just everywhere right now. Now I need to figure out how to kill these ants that are clearly in our little patch of grass in the backyard and block it off for awhile - anyone else have to do that before?

| Poor Marcel!! that had to be painful for him to be actng like that. I have treated my yard for fleas before. I just used something I got at a home improvement store. It would help if you could find the ant mound.

| Poor baby. That must have been painful to him. Those buggers are real biters and can leave the skin pretty red and swollen. Benedryl was a good thought. Glad you had it in the house. I would look for the hill and destroy it fast. Those ants are bad news. |

| Awe poor little baby. I live in Texas "Fire Ant Capital" they are mean little boogers. We use a ant killer that is not supposed to not be toxic. It works. But if you are afraid to use anything not organic, then try adding grits to the mound. I did some research on getting rid of fire ants and that was a suggestion I saw and several people verified it works. They take the grits to the queen and she eats it and swells up and dies.

| OMGosh! I'm so glad he's okay now! Poor baby. I agree with Onni on the grits. My father in law swears by kerosene, but I don't suggest it. Fire hazard, toxic, very bad for the ground water, kills your grass, and on and on. There's a middle ground somewhere, I just know it. Maybe you can call your local pest control companies or Home Depot and get recommendations. Oh, your local agriculture agency should have the latest info and research! Thanks for the reminder, I REALLY have to go pick up some liquid children's benadryl!

| Awww, poor Marcel! Glad you found what the problem was so quickly and acted so quickly! We're supposed to have them here, but I haven't actually had any problem (so far) with them; and hope I never do! There was a huge article just before we moved here about them and how to get rid of them; I'll see if I can find it. I think I finally tossed it out though. I'm sure a pest control company could help you out though! Good luck and give little Marcel an extra kiss for us!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Great ideas everyone. Never heard of the grits, wow! I will call a pest control and also stop by Ace (near work) and see if they have a spray and some little fencing to keep the fellas out.
