| Hypocalcimia??? Mom in trouble?? Ok, as most of you know Bridget was c-sectioned today after showing serious levels of Hypocalcimia. She was stablized and released. I have been watching her, but she is still panting. I have given her the cal tabs 1.5 of them, whelping pudding, milk, cheese, pretty much anything I can get her to eat. But she is still shaking. is there anything else I can do, vets wont be in until 8 am. Babies did nurse a little as vet said it was ok, but I am wondering if it hurt her??? Can I do anything else to help her asap???

| Is Hypocalcemia the same as eclampsia? If it is, she needs some interveineous calcium administered by the vet. She can go into seisures and die if she is not treated. |

| Just checking in for news about Miss Bridget... hope she's doing alright. I'm sure you're at the vet with her now, but update us when you can. What good is an ER vet if they're closed at 2 in the morning? <<grrrrr>> Doesn't that just tick you off? The whole point of an ER is for them to be available when the regular vets aren't! Lots of prayers coming your way!

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Once she has had eclampsia, you need to keep the pups off of her. As long as they are nursing, her body automatically works to replenish the milk...thus draining her more of calcium. With Gracie (had it twice), I would let the pups nurse about once a day and I completely took over feeding them...which meant syringe feeding them every 2 hours including through the night. I would let mom pee and poop the pups but if your girl has had to have an IV drip, you need to get the pups off. Also, once they have had it, chances are, they'll have it again so you need to take that into consideration. Good luck!

| Panting after having babies is very common. If she is just panting and not running a high fever then it probably is not eclampsia. Please be sure to monitor her temperature closely. If she starts running a temperature over 103 then she needs to see a vet immediately. Also if she is in pain and discomfort from the c-section she is likely to pant more too. I pray she will be okay. |
