Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | ~~ OMG The Vet Gave Them Lepto In Their Shots!!!!!~ I am so upset right now!! I took Peeka, Daisy and my moms yorkie Boo to get their annual shots yesterday. My vet was out on vacation so had had to see this whack job that thinks she's a vet my vet knows i don't want the Lepto but this moron gave it to ALL 3 DOGS!!!! well today Boo is shaking really bad and non of them do anything hardley but sleep Peeka is so sore i can barley touch him and poor Daisy had a rabis on top to boot I called the vet today after my mom told me Boo was shaking and let let them know i was very upset. I dang near called the vet a MORON! I just hope they will be ok they have such a hard time with shots as it is but to add this to it ugghhhh!!!! To top it off i feel awful that i didn't double check to make sure cause it was a vet i have never seen. I feel like it's all my fault I told her she better put it on my chart in BIG BLACK BOLD WRITING NO LEPTO!!!! we are also changing and doing the shots every 3 yrs now it's just to hard on my babies. Please always double check before shots i am learning the hard way I just hope they don't die on me now i feel horible.

| I would be so upset also...but it is my understanding that if they have reaction to the shot it is within the hour. I have never given Lepto to my little ones but reading other posts I think was dogs will be okay. Poor little ones I feel for them.

| Oh honey I'm saying a prayer for all of them. Isn't the Lepto in the yearly 6in one shot? Buddy just went threw two bad days too. His shots were last Sat. He didn't shake but could barely move. I was scared to death. I hope and pray your babies and your Mom's will be ok. Let us know. |

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | it's just horrible i mean they a were all having a hard time yesterday after but it's getting worse. I have to watch them for the next 10 days thats how long it takes for it to clear them. The tremurs are so scary. I have to now watch for seisures, vomiting, not eating and drinking and lethargia if anything else gets worse i have to take them back in. None of them are eating hardly at all and barley drinking. UUGGHHHH i am sooooo mad.

| In our area, it is really necessary to get the Lepto. My dogs have always gotten it and have never had any problems at all. I hope yours feel better soon.

| To be honest, some vets just don't care what we think. I had a friend take her 5 year old yorkie in for shots and she told the vet not lepto because she had heard that the lepto shot was hard on little dogs. The vet said he did not agree with that. She assumed the vet would still honor her wishes but it turned out that he gave her dog the lepto shot anyway. Hopefully your babies will be just fine. |

I am wondering now, after reading this, it was this shot and not the Rabies that put him down. He went down about 1 1/2 hrs after coming home. Thanks for that info. I had no idea. | |

| lepto can also cause kidney problems. if they are going to have any kidney problems from the lepto, it will be about two weeks and from what I have read here and other places, it mimics liver shunt. i would be furious!!!!!!!! Hopefully your babies will be alright. My vet even told me to stop using the coronavirus in my puppy shots. it has been many many years since we have had it here. I guess it depends on the area you live in. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Lepto can be given individually now. It used to be available only in the distemper shot but Fort Dodge has a safer, individual injection now. I gave it to Bella all by itself and sat at the vet for awhile to see if she reacted. My vet says if they react its usually within 10 minutes. So scary. Lepto is in our area also and you dont have to be in standing water or a pond to get it! This virus is very deadly so I chose to vaccinate for it.

| There are at least 8 strains of lepto that dogs can get and I don't know of any shot that is good for mre than 2 of those strains. I would never give it to my yorkie unless there are special circomstances. Lots of vets recommend it cause that's what they are taught in vet school. The shot can be fatal in small breeds. If you insist on getting it it is best to wait in the vets office 20 minutes after the shot so they can give epi if there is a reaction |

| I hate to admit my ignorance, but what IS lepto? I have gotten all of Alastor's shots done except the last set and rabies. Is this something I should bring up with his vet? Thanks, Sarah
