| Severe Kidney infectio This is my first post. I posted this earlier in the health section by mistake She (my Princess Tilly) has been in the hospital for a week now. Not responding to the antibiotics. I decided to put her down today, but when I got to my vets, She perked up. My vet (she is a saint) said there is still hope. She has been on a water IV and catheter all week. Her tests have not improved in the last couple days. She is not working this week end, so she said she would take her home with her to change out the fluids. Now you all know she is a saint. She hasn't been eating, so I went to the store and got her a treat. Apple and Lime Yoplait yogurt. She gobbled it up and her eyes cleared up quite a bit. My vet was astounded! She figured she was severely depressed because I wasn't there for a week. We walked around with her and she was very alert. I changed my mind and she is now at home at my vet's house. I hope I haven't prolonged the inevitable. Just had to share. Guess she broke me into being a sissy! She has been battling Lyphangactasia for almost two years. She ahs beat the odds with that disease so far. |

| How old is she? Mine was nine when she got that. She turned bad very quickly and we put her down because the vet said there was no hope and she was in pain...not eating, just crying. It broke our hearts. We still have her sister and we just got a new pup (after a year)....we miss her dearly.....hope yours recovers and does fine. My heart goes out to you.

| I posted on your other thread, but just in case you don't see it.... Please make sure your vet's got her on a low protein diet. 10% or less is better during this tough time and through recovery! Her little kidneys need as much a break as possible. Achy kidneys are no joke. I get kidney stones and bladder infections once in awhile that likes to sneak to the kidneys....yeah, no fun! I wish you and your girl the best! |

| I am so sorry to read your sweet pup has kidney and PROTEIN-LOSING ENTEROPATHY. My Sophie contracted the disease when she was five and lived until I helped her to the Rainbow Bridge when she was 13. Is she retaining fluid on her chest? Sophie was diagnosed by a second opinion vet with the disease and always remember him telling me gently "she is fragile". Her little bones stuck out on her back and lost muscle mass. So glad Tilly has the strong will to live. Welcome to Yorkie Talk and unfortunately the protein loss affects a lot of Yorkies. Warmly, Deborah

| present condition Tilly has 2 types of infection in her kidneys. One is EColi and the other one I cant remember. That one is drug resistant, so Vet is giving her another antibiotic that is usually reserved for large animals. Yesterday morning she was at my vets home and she ate some yogurt. Things were looking up. When I got home from work my wife said that Tilly had 2 seizures and was not doing well. I called my vet and she was bringing Tilly to the clinic for a x-ray and some more blood tests. We met her there. The xray with Barium showed no blockages and by our suprise her Bun and other kidney related tested were doing much better. The 24 hour daily fluid pump appears to be working. Of course, she was very glad to see us. She still wont eat any real food, even though I tried to hand feed her. This is very tough on her and us. My vet (the saint of all times) took her back home to continue the fluids with added plasma and sugar. She thinks the seizures may have been caused by a rapid blood sugar loss. Will wait for a call today on her progress. |
