| YT friends PLEASE help!! Okay so Maverick has started in with runny poop today really bad. And now tonight he has blood in his runny poop. It is like pure water coming out. And he has just thrown up twice in the last 30 minutes. He hasn't eaten anything he shouldn't of that I know of. I keep pretty good tabs on him. My friend is a vet tech and she gave him some pepto and some other medication for throwing up. I'm hoping he'll feel better but what could cause him to throw up and have runny poops??? He has been eating cat food sicne I got him and I finally put it up so he can't get to it and he has started eating Canidae now on a more regular basis. I'm so worried about him right now. My friend said if he doesn't do good tonight she'll take him into work with her tomorrow to the vet and she'll make sure he is taken care of but I'm so nervous about tonight. What could I feed him to help him? Is there anything I can give him to make his poop harder? I just want him to feel better. He is acting pretty normal so I don't know. Anyways thanks for any advice at all. |

| I'm not for sure either, but I don't think cat food is good for puppies. If it were my baby I'd want to see the vet ASAP, now if that is possible. They are so small, it doesn't take much for their blood sugar to drop and that is sooo scary. Hope your baby is fine though. |

| I think the cat food is the culprit,it can make dogs very sick if eaten long enough as cats and dogs have very different nutritional needs and he is still so young.I think you have a handle on it with the pepto and putting the food up but if he is not better in the morning I would not wait any longer to take him to be seen.

| cat food is your problem -- it can be very dangerous to dogs. Please do not feed this to your pup again. There are a lot of other things you can do to entice Maverick to eat. Either go to the ER vet tonight - my first recommendation. He needs immediate help. If you are not going to do that see if you can get some chicken broth in him. If you buy it get low sodium. Also, feed in a bit of pure canned pumpkin (not spiced pumpkin pie filling) I would also recommend some pedilyte

| Thanks for the great advice. My neighbor gave me a few things to give to Maverick. And yes I know that cat food is bad for him and I've tried to keep it away from him but over the last few months he has eaten it from time to time, not every day or even every other day just when it was accidently left down. Just this last week I've totally put it up so he can NEVER get it. I read that it wasn't good for him so now he has no access to it. So this is the first whole week where he hasn't had any at all and now this. My friend is taking him into the vet with her in the morning. I have three kids and my husband is in the field so I can't take Maverick to the vet now. I'm just going to watch him carefully and if it comes to it my friend will take him in for me. She already said I can call her whenever and she'll take care of it since I can't right now. I hate that. I will definitely keep a close eye on him all night though. Thanks again for all the great advice. I gave him some chicken broth and he LOVED that so that's good. He acts fine it's just runny/bloody poop and he threw up twice. UGH. Poor Maverick. I'll will let everyone know how he is tomorrow morning. Thanks! |

| Could it still actually be the cat food if she put it up last week? I've had to put our kitty's food behind a low gate that she can jump over. Her litter box is there also. My two senior girls have never bothered the litter box, but my boys are fascinated by it. Sounds like you have your hands full---a tiny puppy and 3 small children. Now this is going to show how ignorant I am, but farming in Arizona? Thought it was way too hot there for anything but cacti to grow. My son flies to Phoenix about five times a year for business and he loves it.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How is he doing? Cat food really isn't all that different from dog food - so I'd be surprised that it'd cause this much of a reaction - unless your baby has a very sensitive tummy. Hope he is feeling better.

YT 500 Club Member | I would also not blame the cat food too much. Our little one liked cat food too when she first came to us, and when she got very ill, the vet wanted to blame the cat food. They all said it was too high in protein. However, my husband checked the bag, and the puppy food was higher! Do you have any plants in the house? Also ours is nearly 7, and she occasionally gets ill for seemingly no reason. We are always at a loss. Anyway, good advice from everyone, keep her hydrated. Keep a very close eye on her, and if she begins to act weak, get her in ASAP.

| Maverick did fine last night and so far nothing this morning. I'm waiting for him to poop so I can check his poop out. But he is acting fine and slept all through the night with no problems. I, of course, did not sleep so well b/c I was worried about him. I don't think it's the cat food that was/is making him sick b/c he hasn't had any in a week really. And since last week he had ate it pretty regularly when it was down and I didn't catch him. We don't have any plants around the house so it couldn't be that. So I'm just going to watch him today and see how he does and see if I can get him into the vet. Again thanks for the advice and good thoughts. Also, when I said field I didn't mean he was farming. I guess I got a little confused there when I replied up above. He is a Marine and sometimes they go out in the "field" to do things. Brush up on their training and all that. I call it a little "camping trip" So that's what I meant there. He's not a farmer! |
