| Bloody diarrhea! UGH! 2 days now, my little one has had diarrhea, not horrible, but at least a little bit about 8x a day and waking me up in the middle of the night to go out. AT one point it was totally liquid, but its firmed up a tiny bit. I thought maybe it was gone since its been about 5 hours since hes had any, but he just had more, this time it had traces of blood in it. He is alert, eating, drinking, playing, acting totally normal. I made him some white rice tonight but he didnt eat much of it. I don't have canned pumpkin here, is there anything else that is more common that I could feed him? Should I take him to the vet at this point? I checked out the latest 'batch' and besides the trace of blood, I didnt see any worms or anything. Im a little nervous now that I saw some blood.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom get that when she eats anything other than her usual diet or sometimes for no reason. She was diagnosed with Colitis and has medicine for flare ups. Sometimes when they have tummy upset their digestive tract gets inflamed and you will see blood. I would call the vet tomorrow if it continues, Hope it clears up soon.

| Well last night he woke me up only once at 115am to go out. I checked the stool again and it still had traces of blood, not in it but around the edges and still completely soft. He went back to sleep and didn't wake up again all night. This morning he went out and when I saw it I felt a little better, it had a form at least. It was still really wet but I didnt see any blood and it did have at least some consistancy. I did give him plain white rice last night. Im still concerned though.

| Oh I'm sorry, hope feeling better soon. I think I'd call the vet and maybe take in a sample for testing. Sending you best wishes and hugs.

| Gracie is going through the same thing. The only difference is, Gracie threw up her rice and boiled chicken this evening, completely undigested, about 30 minutes after she ate it. I have given her two doses of Pepto Bismol, hasn't stopped the squirts. I am going to give her until morning and if she is no better, I am calling the vet. I just threw out all of the old bully sticks thinking that might be the problem, as nothing has changed food and water wise. She is drinking fine and seemed to have a decent appetite before she threw up her dinner. She is alert and does not seem to have tummy pain. I don't want to hijack your thread, but if someone could give some advice, or just tell me I am on the right track I would appreciate it. Should I plan to take a sample of the diarrhea with me to the vet if she needs to go? She has had diarrhea several times before but never this bad. Poor baby!

| The stool should be as fresh as possible, so if you take her to the vet in the morning, make sure to take a fresh sample. I'm sorry Gracie's not feeling well!! Maybe you could feed her a little plain rice in the meantime.

| Ok, day 5 now. I fed Dex boiled rice & hamburg last night and again this morning. Hes not throwing up, hes acting normal. He slept through most of the night last night only waking up at 530am to go out, he still had diarrhea, no more blood. When I got up at 630 and let him out, he had more. I fed him more white rice and hamburg and he ate it all up. He has not puked. I checked his gums and they were a little sticky but still pink. I am at work now and called the vet. They asked me to bring a stool sample tonight and they will have an answer by the morning if he has a parasite. They told me that if he does, they will put BOTH my dogs on antibiotics just in case. Do you think thats a good idea? They also said that if he does not have a parasite they will have to see him tomorrow for more diagnostic testing. Im a little worried because its been 5 days. Im not as worried as I was 2 days ago though because there is no more traces of blood. My POOR BABY!!!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | DAY 5 of diarrhea? Oh my gosh! I would get him to the vet asap, with the stool sample. And yes, if there is a parasite - it is always best to put all pets on medication or they'll just pass it back and forth.

| yeah day 5 Ive read up on some info and was told to feed him a diet of xxx for a few days to see if it clears up on its own. Even the vets office did not seem TOO concerned as long as I bring a sample tonight and there is no more blood and hes acting normal. Im giong to bring the sample tonight and him (just in case they can sneak him in - she said they were booked solid for the next 2 days though). I am worried though at this point.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Well, as long as his gums are pink, he's still drinking water, and you can get him to eat - then at least he's probably not in danger. If any of those things change, you can grab your baby and barge in on in there! I'd stay away from hamburger; maybe just give some canned/mashed potatoes, or white rice for now.

| I think antibiotics for both dogs is appropriate if it is a parasite, as the other dog could get it pretty easily. I'm glad your baby is not throwing up and is eating, but sorry he is still having the squirts. Gracie seems to be OK now, no diarrhea for the last 11 hours. She kept down cottage cheese last night and boiled chicken with rice this morning, at least so far. There must be some sort of doggy flu going around. There are sure lots of posts about diarrhea lately. Anyway, I hope your baby is feeling better soon and whatever is causing it is easily fixed.
