| Vinny is sick...possible meningitis and now lump on neck Hello all...I recently discovered this website, last week when Vinny got sick. He is 2 yrs. old, usually healthy, ocassional upset stomach here and there but nothing major. Last week, on sunday night, he seemed down. His behavior continued and he wouldn't eat and was very week. I took him to the vet and he had a fever and a high white cell blood count. Also, he had neck pain. They thought is was possible meningitis but I didn't do the spinal tap because it's too expensive (I am a student and work part-time), and stupid me never thought of pet insurance. Anyways, he got antibiotics, pain medication and anti-inflammatory pills. He seemed to be gettign better and his fever has gone down. All he will eat is hambuerger patties, (he never eats anything except dog food, until now), and he needs food after his medicine. Anyways, I was very happy until today, when I noticed a lump on the left side of his neck. I might have noticed something in the last few days, but his neck was so stiff and he was in pain, I really didn't poke around. Anyways, it is about the size of a ping-pong ball, not really sticking out, but is felt when touched. It is hard and "tight", and when i touch it, he doesn't seem to be in pain. Please help me with any knowledge. He has not had any vaccines, and I already called the ER, and am waiting for a nurse to call me back to see if I should take him in. Any news or info is the only thing that will keep me sane. Please if you have had any similar experience write back! Thank you... |

| Vinny is so much better!!! Hello all! I am so happy to announce that Vinny is doing so well!!! He is back to his normal self! I do not know what it was, obviously not meningitis or cancer like they first said. He ended getting a big lump on his neck and it ruptured. It looked horrible but he wasn't in any pain oddly enough! Now he is back to being my perfect naughty angel! lol Thank you for everything and to all those who do not have pet insurance...GET IT! I know I will....after this, I never want to be faced with not being able to provide for my boy b/c of lack of funds! Good luck to all!!! |

Can I ask what you mean by the lump on his neck rupturing?? I mean did you see it rupture or did it go away?? I have reasons for asking this question.. I am glad that Vinny is feeling better but what that neck please.. He could have a congenital defect you do not know about.. But thankfully a few of us on this group have delt with.
