Default What Could This Be (whowho photo attached)?

I was grooming Sissy today along with a little hiney trim and noticed she has this rash. It is brown and kind-of raised and looks almost like it could be dried poop. It is not scabs as there are no rough edges and when I use a wipe, nothing comes off on the wipe. She regularly gets belly rubs, so this had to have sprung up within the last couple of days, but it is completely surrounding her little whowho and then branches out. I did notice this past week she seems to be licking herself quite a bit in that area.....

We have a vet appointment for Monday as she does not appear to be in pain. Anyone know what this might be and/or what I could do until we see the vet?

wow - graphic!

That does look odd though. I'm not sure what to think. Anything new springing up green in your backyard? Just wondering if she was pottying and something she would be allergic to would be growing with the grass.

could it be from the razor.. maybe a razor burn..that is kinda what it looks like.

I have a rash like this on mara.. I think she got into nettles and put some antibiotic cream on her and today put more on and now it is not so itchy for her.. just a thought..anne

I don't think it is from the yard as she has only been out for a few minutes in the last week (the girls use pee pads). Also not razor burn as I don't shave her. I hesitate to put anything on it till we see the vet because she has been licking......

Nope that is from amonia in the urine. When they tinkle back splashes back. Mia has the same thing but much less. I thought it was flea eggs or flea poop but nope it's from when they tinkle. Usually a good washing with a strong cleanser like an acne cleanser then a bit of neosporin or cortisone cream will help heal it quickly.

Mia had that on her and so did Murphy once. I took them to the vet and he said it was a form of Staph infection on the skin. An antiobotic and they were all better.

Not sure if that is what your girls have or not but just looks very similar to Murphy and Mias. The Vet I had said it is very common in dogs and passes easy to other pets. They could have picked it up at a park, dog store, etc....

Hope you figure it out Jodie. Hugs to Angel and Sissy!

Only Sissy has it and it's only in this area. I'm hoping it is simple and not contagious - especially since we're sitting for Izzy (Izzy816) this weekend!!!!!

I hope it clears up for you soon. I know the vet just gave me an ointment to put on it and it was gone in a matter of days.

Hi Jodi - yes, we did. The vets says is it a fungal infection quite common in female dogs close to the ground. It is many times accompanied with a UTI - though Sissy did not have any symptoms of that. She prescribed Animax Ointment twice a day and after a week, it is almost gone!!!!!!!

That's good to know! I thought the pics looked a bit like what my maltese gets sometimes, which is a skin infection from allergies we think. Glad she is doing better!
