This is what it looks like now... he's been trying to scratch it at night so it got a little redder than it has been... most of the dryness and flakes are gone and it looks like some hair is regrowing...

pics are a bit blurry b/c he wouldn't sit still...

Default Angel

Angel, my two year old yorkie has the same kind of sore as your baby does. The vet took hair samples to send off, but they think it is ringworm. They gave us LymDyp to pour over her. It sure does smell like sulfur and you have to take your jewelry off and wear gloves. It doesn't make her smell pretty, but if it works, it will be worth it.

That's weird b/c my guy thought it was a bacterial sore, not ringworm... a fungus evaluation was done but it takes a couple weeks to get results...

the cream i am using is definitely helping and my other dog as well as me have touched the spot and rubbed against it on accident and haven't gotten any ringworm at all.

did your vet take a blacklight to the sore?

That looks very sore. Have you been to the vet for an evaluation? Warmly, Deborah

I agree, ringworm....take care not to get it under your nails as I am of the understanding humans can pick it up from dogs.

Yes, he thought it was a bacterial infection and gave me some cream I've been putting on. It used to look much worse (see page 1).

For the cough vet added .5/mL 3x a day for 2 weeks of chloramphenicol.

The sore gets crust over night and looks like a scab is forming or something... don't know what's going on... :-(.

Major Update: Got back preliminary results from the vet on the fungal test and they can already tell it is ringworm... you guys were right... shame on the vet for not knowing...

Picking up a liquid antibiotic, a cream and a shampoo for the little guy. He is going to be taking the antibiotics for 4 weeks.

Hopefully he gets better soon, I feel terrible for him.

Just putting my two cents worth in. Everyone has already covered it for you. But it looks just like ringworm to me too.

Default question

Wow, after reading through this thread I am so impressed with how smart you YTers are!

Does the monthly Intercepter pill stop ringworm from happening? How do they get ringworm?

Interceptor works on parasites like hookworm or heartworm. Ringworm isn't really a worm. Its a fungus. It lives on other animals and in the soil. It feeds on skin cells. If your puppy comes in contact with the spores (like from another dog), they can get it. It can spread alot at the groomers too -- since its on the dogs hair and skin.

I hope yr baby gets better real soon. Some have already mentioned, but I wanted to add: we had a kitten that had ringworm & then the whole family got it. The kitten was on antibiotics from Vet and then we had to go to the doctor as well. We remember so well because my daughter was around 5 at the time. Even my brother in law who visited got it. Be careful. Very contagious. Good Luck!
