I'm going through the same thing with Ruthie right now... she'll be 2 on tuesday and I found out friday that she may have a liver shunt. I can't even think back to where she may have had any symptoms - I took her to the vet in the first place for a bit of a cough which the vet couldn't determine a cause for. I take her in tomorrow (monday) morning for tests.

Fingers crossed that things turn out well for you and your little one

SORRY GUYS for just getting back to you now. Thank you so much for the prayers. I was able to talk to my vet at around 5pm yesterday and

the blood and urine tests came back normal! So that is great news, but we are still not out of the woods. We are going in for a Bile Acid Test on Tuesday.

I asked my vet to be real with me -- i wanted to know if the free & clear blood tests were really a great sign - and she said YES that I should be excited since many times those tests will show abnormalities. that is especially true since if he does have a shunt, he would have had it for nearly 4 years now. And as we all know, if you have liver damage for four years, you would be on your way out.

She said his convulsions might just be metabolic. I guess some dogs do have muscle spasms every now and again and you can't really diagnose them as a form of a seizure disorder since he was 100% conscious (you cant be conscious during a seizure).

I bought some low-protein food yesterday as a precaution and started mixing it in w/ his regular (super high protein) food yesterday.

Anyway, sorry that this is such a long post. I've missed you guys, too! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I will keep you guys posted as to how it goes on Tuesday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed tightly for my little guy. Its been a surreal couple of days.

Janice - I hope Ruthie gets some good news like we did. Hugs to you

Oh my goodness! I was shocked to see this about Stewie, then relieved for the good test results, but praying for the bile acids to come back normal!

Oh gosh! Glad to see that nothing showed up in the blood tests. Stewie will be in my thoughts and prayers as you and your vet work to figure out what is going on.
