| Digby & Dexter (New puppies) (1st time Yorkie Owners) Saturday of last week we got these two adorable little guys and have really enjoyed them! We have a few concerns though... I know that they are young and very energetic, but sometimes when they play with eachother they get a little rough and growl and seem to get a little overly agressive. Is this normal or do we need to make sure to break it up so they eventually learn to play nice? Dexter last night started coughing or hacking... From reading other posts in these forums it seems like it could be from a lot of different things. He has been eating and drinking since it started and this morning he did it like once but it has seemed to calm. Do we just give it some time so long as he keeps his energy level and appitite? Any and all advise is appreciated! Thank you very much in advace! |

| Are they litter-mates? The play thing is normal. If you don't feel comfortable you could try breaking them up when they get really excited, but they're dogs, so they have signals (IE pain yelp) and they'll stop if one screams uncle (or bloody murder). As far as hacking ... was it during being really excited? Or maybe after chewing on something? Mouth full of hair from wrestling? If it comes up and you can narrow down what elicits it, that's best, or you can tell your vet the concern and they'll check the throat a little more closely for anything ...

They are not litter mates but the breeder said they had already been livivng together growing up. Digby is 11 weeks and Dexter is 9 weeks. The coughing started before bed time and he woke up every couple hours coughing. I slept next to them last night to keep an eye on him. By about the 4th time waking up I got a little concerned. He has been pretty much ok today but has coughed a little tiny cough like maybe 2 times. | |

| Since they're pretty young and it lasted through the night somewhat, I'd probably make an appointment just for an expert opinion. If between now and the appointment it mysteriously clears up, you could cancel the appointment. When is his next appointment for regularly scheduled shots? Could be all kinds of things ...

| I took them to the vet (even though only one was coughing) and had them both checked out. The Vet gave Dexter a Anti Botic and some cough med but the anti biotic made him get all cracked out so the vet had us take him off that and only do the cough med. He is still coughing, but it doesnt seem to be as violent or as frequent as it was before. Hoping it goes away here pretty soon. The poor guy just wants to play without having to stop and cough every now and then |
