Im sorry to hear this. I know how you feel, we have a blood bound that was struck by a car just a few weeks ago and the idiot didnt even stop. My brother has a garage across the road and my Dad was over there when she got hit, so he was right to her rescue. This happened on a Friday and we took her right to the Vets office. She has to stay the entire weekend and did not get the splint on until Sunday because the swelling was so bad that if he put the splint on it would just fall off after the swelling went down. So we went down on Sunday to visit and watch the splint be put on. My best friend works at the office so we knew everything that was taking place and thats why we were able to be there on Sunday also. Now the total cost for everything was 225.00 and they gave us a 75.00 discount because my best friend works there, so 150.00 was the total. She was on pain meds the whole weekend and she did not have to have surgery because still being a puppy the healing process was much quicker. She was suppose to keep the splint on for 3 weeks and it came off a week early because she did heal so well. She is doing great now.I know you cant compare a hound to yorkie but I just wanted to tell you of our similar experience. I hope you get good news when you take her to your regular Vet. Good Luck

I am so sorry about your baby. Hopefully your regular vet can fix her up and it won't be terribly expensive.

She is 5 months old and the x-ray shows a clean break above her right knee. She also has a clean break in her small pelvis bone. The emergency vet said that that will heal well on its own, but she will need surgery on the leg. I am going to take her to our regular vet in the morning. He said he thinks they will pin it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will it work? Will she have pain forever? Will she be able to run and play. How much is this going to cost us!?! Unfortunately we do not have a money tree in our backyard. I'm freaking OUT!!! Thanks in advance for any comments!
My little girl Cricket broke her front leg...radius and ulna...we had it set by a regular vet but it was not healing properly. She ended up having surgery by an orthopedic who put a plate and five tiny screws in her leg. It took a good 4 months to get through all of the steps of recovery but I am so happy she is perfect again! The first picture you can see her little scars from her surgery....this was about a month after the fact. Unfortunately surgery for any dog is not cheap. Her surgery by the specialist was $2,000 I am extremely protective of her now but she runs and plays like nothing ever happened. I think I remember more than she does! I will say a prayer for your little baby! You will get through it....it just takes patience and lots of time.....I was in your shoes and I remember thinking we will never make it but we did! Hugs from Cricket & Paxton

Thank God it was not worse. These babies are so little its amazing she came out with just a broken leg. I am so sorry to hear about it, but, when they are young like she is its amazing how well they bounce back. Tina had a back leg broken in 2 places when she was about 8wks. old. She was in a cast for about 2mo. and did fine. She will be 11yrs. on May 10th and so far she has never had any problems with it. It also pays to have a good vet that knows what they are doing. Good luck and hope that little baby does well.
