You are right about the fish...Cricket won't touch it with ten foot pole. Paxton's stool is wanting to be formed but it is really soft and his gastric sounds are very loud....no blood thank goodness!
The Diarsanyl you would have to order from Revival Animal Health. I have used it off and on for years. Luckily I don't have many episodes of diarrhea but occasionally they will manage to eat something they shouldn't. Why don't you just try to grind up some of the Canidae, dry in a blender and maybe add a little cottage cheese and see if he will eat that or add a small amount of the ground up Canidae with the chicken and rice. Have you tried the pure pumpkin yet? That would really help. If his stools are not better in the morning then I suggest another trip to the vets. I know you are frustrated but sometimes these things are hard to figure out. I hope he gets better soon, please keep us posted.

Omg Back to the vet today.....Oh my gosh!

Paxton was doing a little better over the weekend but I tried a couple of the sweet suggestions....pumpkin....canidae with his rice and chicken...I even went to Central Market and got the Probiotics....He went out to potty this morning...really loose poops and then came inside and pooped mucus that was really gel like with a little blood. Of course I freaked and made an appointment with a different vet....I was not happy with mine, they have been very impatient with me but my dogs health is at risk! They keep insisting this is stress related. Maybe it is but what if it is not? My girlfriend recommended a very sweet female vet Dr. Carrie Mark ....she really loved my baby. Her approach was very different....of course she did another fecal which was normal. She also did a full blood workup to check his liver, heart and other functions and gave him Drontal Plus(wormer)....I have not given him this yet because I wanted to see what ya'll thought before I do! She also sent off a fecal specimen to make sure he does not have Giardia although those have come back negative. Please say a little prayer for Paxton! Over all he is really happy...he still weighs 4.2lbs and his nose is wet! He is better than chocolate!

Poor Paxton. I can't imagine what could be wrong unless he does have giardia and it is not showing up in the test. I don't understand why the vet would give him a wormer if he does not have worms. What did she recommend you do for diet and for the diarrhea? I hope he gets well soon.

my pup was doing the same thing...runny, bloody poos and no results on her fecal tests. I was going crazy cleaning up her constant messes as she was going 5-10 times a day. She went through two courses of Albon and a course of Flagyl without any success, finally she was put on Amoxicillin and her poos are FINALLY normal.
Don't give up! It can be cured.

How is Paxton doing? I was thinking about him last night. Emmy had the same symptoms diarrhea/bloody mucus when I changed her food over originally. That is why she is STILL on a mix of bil-jac and merricks. She has a very sensitive tummy.
I am still wondering since they aren't finding anything wrong with him, if his new food is reaking havoc with his tummy? I know it probably sounds far fetched, but I did go through this originally so I really have to wonder.?.
Keep us updated!

Confused Paxton Update

Good news...Paxton's blood work came back NORMAL! YEAH! I am sooo happy about that but we still have soft yucky poops! Thank goodness I have found the sweetest vet in the world...she just called me and has been speaking to an internal medicine specialist and they feel we should run a bile acids test...she does not feel it is liver shunt but one step closer to figuring out what could be wrong.

Molly ....I did tell her about your little Emmy and what you went through with her tummy upset. I explained to her that we both got our yorkies from Glenda Beavers and that they were both on Bill Jack when we got them. Dr. Mark said it would be worth a try to slowly put him back on Bill Jack since that is what he was on when I got him ...it may not be my choice of food but it worked for him before....we will see.

I will keep ya'll updated....

I think I would be getting aggrivated at this vet. Maybe a second opionion wouldn't hurt?? Might be worth a try. Thats a long time for that baby to have this problem. Its scary because they can dehydrate so fast. When Tina was finally diagnosed with Von willingbrand's disease, I had called just about ever vet in Dallas and seen the other half. I didn't care what they thought. I needed help and was about to lose my baby. Thank God someone came through and knew what to do. Hang in there , I know how scary it is when these babies are sick.

Poor baby and you. This is so frustrating not to know what is wrong. Sounds like the new vet is on top of it. I will keep him in my prayers.

I believe this vet is her 2nd opinion if I remember correctly.

Oh, gosh, this is just heartbreaking - I'm really sorry you're going through all of this with your baby.

Of course, you have to do what you think is best - but, if it were me I would not put this baby back on Bil Jac at all (tons of fillers, some of which are carcinogens). I wouldn't give him any more chicken either - as he continued to have problems on it (it never alleviated anything). I would do the potato thing I posted about on the 1st page - potatoes for a day or two, then add fish.

So, are they testing for shunt or? And, have they tried giving Amox yet?

I know bil-jac is crap. I am so curious though why all of my breeders have had their pups on it. I had to go buy a bag and it was just as expensive as the good food so they aren't saving any money.
Sorry, not trying to get off track, I just find this very odd.

Ok Ya'll Paxton was better and then I started adding a few little pieces of food into his chicken and rice.....soft poop again!!! Not to add insult to injury but he is now coughing!!!!! Help! He coughs and then he act like he is chocking! I don't think it is a reverse sneeze...do you think it might be kennel cough? He came from Glenda's with his shots and Rabies but no bordatella? We have only been to the vets no public parks or anything like that. My other two dogs are fine...all shots and no sickness. What in the world could it be?

Vicki you are too sweet to be worrying about Paxton...your worries are big enough. I have read some of your babies story...I am so sorry he has had such a difficult time! I am happy he got your for a Mommy and will always know love no matter what I only wish every dog was so lucky!

Paxton seems to be doing better but I cannot take him off his boiled chicken breast/steamed rice. He gets a tummy upset with Canidae All Life Stages and Royal Canin Puppy 33. I still have yet to buy some Bill Jack...I don't really care for food but it is what he was on when he came from Glenda's. I took him back to the vet for his cough and of course mum is the word while we were in the office...she said his chest and everything looks good. Don't worry if one little thing looks wrong I have my babies at the vets office. I will keep ya'll updated on any changes.
